A Golden Oldie reissued by Atlantis
This is a re-issue of a 1950s Revell kit by Atlantis. There are not a lot of parts, but almost all will need cleaned up to remove a little flash and a lot of mold seams, especially on the launcher legs. I built it strictly out of the box like it was the 50s. The instructions are clear but you do have to study them and the box artwork to figure out where all the decals really need to go. Sticking to a 1950's modeling approach, I painted all the parts before assembly: just as the instructions say to do. I also did NOT sand off all the molded in decal guides on the fins. I'm not a figures painter, but did manage to make the figures look convincing from a distance. The kit makes up into a nice diorama of a prototype Talos. I used a color scheme suggested by the U.S.S. Little Rock cruiser website and a photo of the missile being tested at White Sands missile range. Most of the kit was painted with Vallejo Model Air paints, but the missile itself was done with Testors enamels as references called for bright primary colors for the missile body and fins.
