Reviews : Academy USS Oliver Hazard Perry FGG-7

This Perry class FFG is excellent value for money, building into a very nice replica of the USS Oliver Hazard Perry (FFG-07), the first of her class. General fit and finish of the kit is excellent with little or no gaps showing between parts. It appears the option is given to build the ship either as a long hull or short hull but decals are only provided for the short hull FFG-07 and none of her sisters. There was no flash on any of my kit pieces which was great but the plastic railings that accompany the kit are a little thick not terribly to scale, but they are better than nothing and do enhance the look of the completed kit. I found no other problems with the rest of the build. Two SeaHawk helicopters are provided complete with torpedoes which is a nice addition if you want to add them, although the hangar is hollow and doesn't really provide a suitable place for both SeaHawks, so I only built one. The details of both helicopters was excellent, but they do not come with decals. Over all, an excellent and enjoyable build of one of the most versatile Guided Missile Frigates operating in the world today. Go ahead and build it, you won't be disappointed.

Had to do this model. One, Academy puts out a nice kit, two, the navy is retiring this class of ship very rapidly, and third, most importantly...I got to spend a day out at see on one of it's sister ships. So for me, I had to build a memory I will always cherish. The kit is interesting to build, fit and finish of parts is excellent, and once completed, it brought back tons of memories from going all through the ship.

Very solid build and typical Academy quality for the price. The only downside is that the hand rails are plastic and look a bit thick in scale, however there are photo etch update sets that cure this.

Just rec'd the model and am excited to get started! It appears that the surface details are sharp and stand out well. There are plenty of detail parts to work with. Great acquisition!

Really good model, very intricate and detailed, wasn't too many problems other than little pieces snapping but everything went smoothly. definitely would recommend to those into detail
