If you're an old hand with the airbrush, you probably won't need this, but for anyone new to airbrushing, this is a very handy guide to all things airbrush. I'm a retread modeler, coming back to the hobby after forty years away. Back in the day, painting for me was one brush, a bottle of Testors enamel, and the thickest coats I could put on the plastic. There were airbrushes then, but I didn't know anything about them and they seemed so complicated to young me. Current day me understands better that the airbrush is a game changer, speeding up painting and making even a bad painter look good through the magic of atomization. Yes, you could get some of this information from videos and articles, but this book really does cover it all: the equipment, the physics, techniques, and troubleshooting common issues. I did feel one of the book's points as a bit too strong. The author universally dismisses all cheap airbrush sets as trash. But I feel this is too harsh. Today you can find affordable bundles online that include a compressor with tank and a set of starter airbrushes. The compressor is an established technology that's been around for decades, and even the small hobby ones with tanks are pretty reliable. The airbrush is a bit more complicated to assess; it's true that higher cost brands are likely better engineered and made of higher quality components, no disagreement there. However, not all cheap airbrushes are the same; some are quite good, and fundamentally, the airbrush, like the compressor, is an established technology. A commoditized offering can still be sufficiently functional, especially for modelers who often don't need the same precision as an artist. I'm still using the cheap pack-ins that came with my compressor and they're acceptable for priming, base coating, and any job where the masking is doing the real work (which for modelers is a lot of them). So I would suggest that readers be aware that there is a varying degree of quality among airbrushes and to check some reviews, but price doesn't have to be a blocker to your use of an airbrush.
