Reviews : AMT 1971 Plymouth Duster 340

I had a few minor issues with this kit, and some of them might have been because I combined this model with another one, the '67 Chevelle pro street kit. I cut the chassis' in 2 and used the rear portion of the Chevelle so I could use the suspension, rear end, slicks, and wheelie bars on the Duster. I also used the headers, seats, and roll cage from the Chevelle to build an NHRA Super Stock 340 Duster. The interior's door panels needed some sanding and filing in order to get the body mounted properly, and I didn't even try to use the side windows. The windshield had the sun visors molded into it in clear plastic, which doesn't make any sense IMO. I had to cut them off in order to fit the roll cage, which put a small crack in it, but I didn't have a spare windshield laying around, so I had to use it any way. Would I buy it again, definitely,it's a MOPAR A body. What other reason would you need?

Overall this is a very nice, fairly detailed kit. I especially appreciate the engine details. The major issue was some fit issues especially wrt the clear glass pieces. The side windows didn't fit once you matted the chassis/tub to the body. I just left them out - it was easier and they really weren't needed. A bigger issue was the windshield. There are locating pins - which is nice - but the plastic on the bottom of the windshield was so thick that I had to take the tub apart and redo it with the dash lower to make it fit. Even then the front suspension sat too low - I had to heat it and bend it up a bit. Even after doing that it still rides a bit high in the front. If I had it to do over I would trim that piece off of the windshield. Still, these are pretty nit-picky in an overall good, nice looking kit.

I really enjoyed this kit. The mold had good detail and little flash. The decals come with both black and white stripe sets, plus some extra license plates and logos. The engine can be built as either a 4 barrel or six pack, and the under hood detail and hoses were very nice. I did find that it required some finesse to fit the body to the chassis due to a collision between the interior panels and the side rear windows. I also feel like the fit of the grille could be better, there are gaps at the top corners. Overall though, I would buy another one.

I really like this kit. It has lots of molded in details and I like that it has separate door panels for easier detailing. Overall it was pretty easy to put together, with the only issue being the fit of the lower windshield where it meets the dashboard and firewall. Some trimming will be necessary to get a proper fit. You have extra parts for a couple of hood options as well. The decal sheet is very nice and includes a few options for the hood. Pad-printed tires are included to top it all off. Highly recommended!

Great kit and even greater car. It has the white or black 340 stripe options, as well as the dart sport hood center twister decal. You will have to fill 2 small holes on the trunk if you plan on not using the spoiler, and drill 8 holes in the hood if you use the scoops, the only other option is the intake. It has the stock 340 intake or a 6 pack intake which a 71 duster 340 didn't come with from the factory. If I'm not mistaken the 6 pack was a dodge only thing

This was a nostalgia build for me. My late grandfather owned a Duster when I was a kid. This was a really nice kit. The car went together good. The only issue I had was the rear side windows. I couldnt figure out if they went in the body or supposed to set flush on the window frame. Mine ended up a little further back than I wanted. Try to watch that. The six pack engine looks fantastic under the hood. Really enjoyed this build. My grandfather would be proud.

A real nice kit! Sharply molded, no flash at all, mold seams almost nonexistent. The 340 6 pack motor has great detail, the heater and ac lines are a bit crowded but after a little trimming should fit fine. Body mates with the chassis just fine, front end sets a little high so lm going to try a taller rear wheel and tire combo to raise up the backend a bit. All in all a great kit of a fantastic Mopar of days gone by. I would definitely build another.

AMT always delivers a quality kit and this 1971 Duster is no exception. Trees are well molded with minimal flashing, parts were intact and easily removed without issue. I did not experience any fitment issues but there are some cramped parts of the model that can be tedious but well worth it. I did skip a few parts in the engine bay as it was going to be cluttered and not for me. Overall the kit is great and I would definitely recommend it.

Overall, very pleased with the outcome of this one, & this is my third build of this particular model. I love Dusters & it's a very detailed kit. I had to do some front sub-frame work, as it was slightly bent on the third build & did not quite sit right but, that's why you should trial fit everything before final build on all sub-assemblies. I learned this on some other models. AMT is another good company.

In my opinion this kit is one of AMT'S better offerings,builds into a beautiful example of of the 71 duster, no flash to speak of, engine options, decal options, allows you to choose many different body colors, built mine factory stock and took 2nd place in that catagory against some much more expensive kits, I have 2 more kits in my stash, would highly recommend

Nice replica of a car I had when I was 19 years old. I had absolutely no problem with either of the two kits I’ve completed. Good details on the motor and the interior with options to build it different ways. I did a blue metallic and a green metallic. I’ll probably do another one just because I had a good time putting this together. Two thumbs up

This is a nice model of the 1971 Duster and can be built in several versions. It is mostly flash free and assembles easily. You can leave the hood scoops and rear wing off for more of a base model look. The reason I don't give it 5 stars is that it is an older molding that is not quite up to the standards of the new molding process.

I really like building this kit intact I have two but the other one I am goingbto have opening doors and such. As with many of the AMT kits little to no flash my only thing I wish they did different is to not have mounting holes for the rear spoiler other than that great build

Lots of good detail and build options! Tons of decal options as well. My favorite feature was the multiple hood and engine aspiration options, it made the build that much more fun!!

This was a super nice kit from AMT. Everything went together easy. No flash on the kit that I have. Would be a challenge for beginners. So not recommended. This is a advanced kit.

I built this, and various decals for engine types as well as black/white varieties of decals. Like most kits, there was flash, but not brutal. Would buy again.
