Because this is an older kit, and since AMT's Bronco (we all know what AMT is capable of), a kit like this just can't compete. So, while I can recommend it, I do so with an average rating. I actually got this kit built, and believe it or not, it sits evenly on all four tires! It's a miracle! Assembly was surprisingly straightforward, and even with several layers of paint and clear, it went together just as I hoped it would. The locating pins always matched up with the corresponding holes, which really was nice. However, it isn't perfect, and some of the problem areas that required normally unnecessary extra work included: The engine bay; I believe the double-ended hose which joined up and became one hose, plus the huge holes in the radiator, made for a pretty lousy looking part. Compound that with the fact that I could find no hole to insert the hose into, and that there just was not enough room between the fan and the radiator, made this whole module a bit of a headache. I wound up removing the radiator, to allow the fan to stay. It still looks a bit unfinished without a hose and radiator, but I don't intend to display it with the hood off, anyway. A last point here-you may want to add some thin plastic strip material at the front and back of the hood to make the gaps a bit less noticeable. One more major issue is the bed. There were 6 injector pin marks in the bed... you know, the one with all the excellent wood grain molded into it? Man, what a waste! There was just no way I could figure out how to make the wood grain look like real wood, and get rid of the pin mark defects without destroying the grain effect. So, I decided to use the bed cover and put this area out of its misery.

I built this kit as a kid and of course I botched, but it was one of my favorite kits. So as an adult, I just had to try my hand at it again. Well, I have built three since I started building again. This kit was one the first kits I built as I started building again. This kit is a great kit for kitbashing, for customizing or just building straight out of the box. There was some flash but not too bad. There are lots of extra parts for building a multitude of versions. My 1st build was the the drag version, it was molded in yellow, so I did not paint it. My second build was the service truck using the Sinclair decals and I painted it in a two tone green and white. My third version was an all out custom with a chopped top, shortened bed, injector stacks, pegasus wheeels and tires, zoomie headers, and a skull for the radiator cover. If you are familiar with the Hot Wheels Boneshaker then you know what I was trying to do. I want to build another version as I dont have the stake bed version. I highly recommend this kit as it is a great kit for customizing and it has lots of extra parts and can be built in a least threee versions straight out of the box. I give this kit a 5 out of 5.

This kit includes parts to build the truck as a stock, custom, or service truck. The body, frame, chassis, and interior parts are nicely detailed and decently molded, but many of the smaller parts, including much of the chrome, have very soft detail, and the mold halves do not line up very well, resulting in a lot of misshapen parts and cleanup work for the modeler. The tires are also nicely detailed, but the pad printed whitewalls are not properly centered. I like that two complete engines are included, though one of them is entirely chromed. I got this kit to build as the service truck option, but the winch on the towing frame looks more like a toy than a scale model. On the plus side, it allows the modeler to apply his scratch-building skills to make it look more realistic. The parts are numbered on the sprues, but not on the instructions, so one must pay very close attention to ensure one is using the correct part.

I've had this kit for some time and just finished it. I went totally custom on it. The flash was a little heavy in areas but nothing too major. Details were kind of light and the instructions were well done. The kit comes to a flat head Ford engine and a chrome engine. I chopped the top on it. I used something new on the interior, I used decals from ladies fake nail kits and it really looks great over the white paint. I painted the body candy root beer over copper. I used wheels and tires from my spares box. I would recommend this kit to all builders.

I bought this kit for the parts to make a wonderful custom oldies truck. AMT usually provides enough parts to go as far as to combine many of them into a really wild vehicle. In my case I'll stick to the custom version as shown in the instructions. I'm looking forward to building this just for fun as I always do. I've primed the white plastic parts with a coat of enamel grey paint which is great for airbrushing over with acrylic paint that I use for the vehicle colors. I recommend this kit for an experienced car model enthusiast.

This AMT kit is a fair kit to build. What makes it fun is all the options of what model truck you choose to build. The kit is almost identical to the '34 Sunoco Towtruck kit by AMT. I didn't have much experience when I built the '34 Sunoco but I've built 30+ since then and this build went fairly smooth. The castings were improved on this kit but the instructions are sadly the same. I choose the service truck model and I'm happy with the end result, a nice addition in my display case.

I enjoyed this build much more than I expected to. The frame and motor are very detailed, the interior, not so much, though you really can't see in there anyway. The options included give a ton of choices. I may get another one to build as a custom. The hood and radiator housing can be a bit hard to get lined up perfectly, and the truck box will really be a problem if you mount it to far-forward, so definitely best to leave that until all other body assemblies are securely mounted.

This kit is just pure fun,one of AMTs best oldies kits from years ago,i painted mine lite blue metallic that i custom mixed myself,built it as an early 60s custom before mag wheels were available,i have 4 of these kits,i plan on doing a 70s street rod with big-n-little mag wheels&tires and a drag truck also,get this kit and build it any way you want,even if you put a beer keg in the bed!

I really liked the kit. Overall, its a good blend of lots of options with nice detail, resulting in a very unique subject. I liked the detail, and man, my spares box doubled with all the extras (even concrete blocks). I like stock though, and this truck came out well. It's kind of expensive for bashing, but some folks got money. Recommended.

This is a pretty nice kit. another old AMT reissue. I actually built two versions of this truck a fendered rod and non-fender rod. Its a kit you can have fun with right out of the box or kit bash with extra parts.I definitely can recommend this kit for all model builders.

I really enjoyed building this model. My wife picked the colors (pink/purple). It's growing on me. 3 options to build. Custom/stock/ tow truck

I went completely retro on this kit and the result was super. Great detailing and casting but still labor intensive. Totally worth the effort.
