Reviews : AMT 1970 Camaro Z28 Full Bumper

Being the owner of a 1972 Camaro for the last forty years, I was really looking forward to this kit and I was disappointed on a number of levels. Like the Camaro Rally Sport kit it evolved from there is a lot of flash and lot of detailing is kind of soft for a fairly new kit. The interior is correct for a 1970 car along with its low back bucket seats but if you want to build a 71-73 car, a fair number of changes will be needed to do it right. The grille is the early fine mesh style but the later cars used a coarse mesh grille so you will have to make one if you want to model a 72 or 73 Camaro. If you're really lucky like I was, you might find an old Dekno resin conversion that was to be used with an even older Camaro kit than this one. It had both styles of grilles and the lower valance panel was more defined than the one in the kit. The dashpad is nicely done and has no center a/c outlets just like the real Z/28. Real Z/28's were not a/c equipped from 1967 to 1972 as this removed 110lbs from the car for racing. The engine is a good representation of the 360hp LT-1 solid lifter cammed 350 that the Z/28 came with and the dual-snorkel air cleaner too. Overall its a good kit but if you want to model anything other than the 1970 Z/28 you will have to do some modification and parts scrounging but that's what modeling is about.

Started this build a while ago and got it about 90% complete. I finally got back to it this morning and ran into multiple issues. The upper front end around the grill was distorted and I spent a couple hours sanding to get it to the point where I felt it was acceptable...if you didn't look too closely. I then attempted to fit the valance under the grill and that part was way off. No amount of work could even come close to getting that part to fit tightly around the bottom of the grill. The air dam under that valance was just as bad. Despite the fact that the paint job had turned out really well as did the interior, I wound up tossing the whole kit. Very disappointed because up until today, this kit had gone together nicely.

This is a very nice kit! The reason I only give it a good is that there is a lot of flash on the parts that needs to be trimmed. I expect that for older kits, but the newer generation kits are so much better. When assembling the chassis, don't glue the front A frame to the floor pan. It makes a very tight fit that can cause breakage when you install it. Install the floor pan in the body, then glue the Front A frame in. It is so much easier.

Originally a split bumper kit so i had to do some carving to custom fit the front bumper&valence,wheels were hard to detail,have to do paint then chrome foil and last paint step,just for the wheels,mixed metal flake blue and metal flake green 1-1 to get the factory color of a real car i seen and liked,overall a decent kit,just be patient and slowly&carefully install the chassis into the body,it can be tricky

This is the same kit as the split bumper with noticeable differences in front end. Good kit but will test your patience getting the front suspension to sit correctly. Left chrome trim off windshield frame to show metal foil on 2nd picture. Like it except for fit issues on suspension.

Item came quickly, looks great, can't wait to get it finished. Will definitely post pictures of it when it's complete.
