Reviews : AMT Peterbilt 378 Long Hauler Semi Tractor

This is AMT's re-box of the Italeri kit (a pre-2005 Peterbilt) and is far superior to AMT's typical offerings. I built the Italeri version a few months ago and was very pleased with its precision and fit. The AMT version is similar, with some parts molded in color. It fit together very well and easily adapted itself to modifications. It's not for beginners- the plastic is thin and the multi-part cab and sleeper are tricky, but it's well designed and with some patience it will be a fun and satisfying build.

OK, to be clear, this is a re-boxed Italeri kit. Yes it's more involved, yes the Italeri plastic is different and really does require a bit of work, and in my experience, a lot of primer. But, the results are totally worth it. I like all truck models, Euro trucks, and AMT kits as well. Some require a lot more work. I'd say this kit is in the middle. I recently discovered the resin conversion for this kit to enable a more contemporary Pete. That's why I'm back.

This kit goes together very well. I had no issues with fitment of any parts. Great detail work on the interior and chassis. The decal sheet has plenty of extras to use as you see fit. The mirrors take lots of patience, but that could be to my old age and big hands...LOL I did do custom tanks and rear fenders to this one. Pictures to be posted this weekend. First time building this kit, but will not be the last Long Hauler I add to my growing fleet.

This is a very detailed kit and not for a beginner. Lots of details and moving suspension parts and steering was a nice touch. I wonder with AMT if these kits are not just for English people as the instructions can be a challenge some times. Especially where parts are to be fused/melted together? Overall AMT kits for vehicles-especially trucks are good but instructions would be better if they were more detailed and instructive.

I picked this up through Hobbylinc a couple of weeks ago. I expected to see the same frame and suspension that was under the Frieghtliner FLC, which I built years ago as a Testers kit. However, I was pleased to see that there are differences in both the both the frame supports and the rear suspension. The mesh for the grill is a nice touch as well After I finish this, I will probably get the AMT Peterbilt 377 kit.

Great model kit. Parts go together very well and the instructions are clear. Lots of parts so take your time and your results will be great! I did mine box stock with the addition of an aftermarket cab guard. PROS: goes together very well and is easily customizable. CONS: mirrors were a bit fussy, and I’m not fond of black styrene as it tends to hide key in points. Still I would rate it a five.

Aside from the decals its the same kit as the Italeri kit.These kits go together so well its just a pleasure to build them.Mine is far from perfect I had a few problems with the cab and sleeper mounts but nothing to give it a bad review.I will post pics

I received the kit in great shape! I haven't had the opportunity to get started on it yet, but look forward to it.
