A Simple Kit that can be Great
This kit I believe is actually 1/51 or 1/52 scale rather than 1/48. The kit sprues are clean with little to no flash. Part fit is mostly good, some sanding and finangling may be needed for the cockpit interior and shell to fit just right. Technically, the top hatch of the cockpit opens, however, the parts are molded such that the hatch would open backwards and the hatch hinge is awkward to assemble. Fortunately, if you plan to leave it closed, you can simply trim the hinge off and glue the hatch shut.
Instructions are short and clear, part count is low and there are no decals, however, raised details and engraved panel lines do give opportunities for paint to highlight details on the kit.
Overall an easy kit to assemble and get very good looking results with.
Nice Updated Rerelease
This kit rivals the Out-of-Production FineMolds (Revell) 1/48 TIE Fighter at about 1/3 the price. The wings have been retooled to a higher level of accuracy. This is a great rerelease of the old 2 ship kit with Death Star base (one of the best MPC/ERTL/AMT kits ever). Unfortunately it lost the extra ship and cool base. But the retooled wings, the competitive price and the SIZE makes it a good value. This is a well detailed, accurate rendition that will require very little/no cleanup or accurization - it's out-of-the-box good.
