Kit Full of Greatness
I’m already a fan of the 63 Stingray, and this vintage kit didn’t disappoint. After building so many AMT kits, I realize many of them are made on vintage kit molds. Sometimes that leads to extra flashing. An experienced model builder can focus on great prep work and create a masterpiece. I’m glad these vintage molds are still around. To my surprise this vintage kit didn’t have a lot of flashing. What the kit did offer was a 3 in 1 build with three options for engines, including the extra hoods to support the desired choice. I was able to have an extra engine to build for another model or even a diorama. The extras didn’t stop there. The kit also included two sets of wheels, including a set of racing slicks for the rear. Even though there weren’t a lot of Corvette badges as decals, the detailed badges on the body were raised high enough for painting. Using dry brushing the Corvette badging on the front, sides, and rear turned out amazing. The same goes for the detailed gages and interior. I added gage decals I ordered from Hobbylinc that really brought the dash to life. This has turned out to be one of my favorite kits from AMT.
63 Vette
A quality kit makes a quality build, this kit lacks quality. Lots of flash and fit/alignment issues. It lacks detail, the chassis has the suspension and exhaust molded in, also the seats are molded into the interior bucket. They use old style metal axles for the wheels. No decals for detail. Plan on sanding/filing almost every part. Check fit before painting. OK kit for beginner to develop skills. An advanced modeler may be disappointed. Some positives, the chrome is very good, shiny and doesn't scratch easily and lots of it. There are 2 engine blocks and 5 engine build options, you can build 2 complete engines. I'm building the 327 with fuel injection. After all it's a 63 Stingray! A beautiful car, get the body paint right and it will be a nice model, just don't look close for detail.
63 vette
I love this kit this kit is a lot of fun to build I love old cars so this is great for my collection this kit has a lot of cool ways you can customize it I want to add another one to my stash as this one looks so good PROS: cheap, fun to build, looks good, highly detailed, features a nice engine CONS: minor flash if you are thinking of picking up this kit then get it, it is a great kit for any old car collector and you will have many ways you can build this if I was going to give it a rating I would give it 10 out of 10 stars I am using this kit for a diorama I have about the first ever car show I went to my mom took a lot of pictures of the cars there so I build cars based on what was at the show and the beginning of my car addiction!
NOT VERY IMPRESSED
From the minute I opened the box and found interior tub with ugly molded in bucket seats something I might expect from a cheap snap fit. Lots of flash on the body and plastic trees look like injection molds from along time ago. Oh and don't let me forget the major molding blemish on passengers side of body. The instructions are not very clear, Oh you get 2 motors but seems like nothing wants to work together. After starting and getting into the build started to enjoy it and of course thinking of the end of project and how it will turn out. Would I recommend this kit, sure if looking for 63 split window, and as I looked at other peoples builds you can get past all that is wrong with this kit.
Brings back great memories of an era gone by and like the original Vettes, needs TLC.
A classic AMT kit of a classic Corvette. Although there are few parts actually required to build this model, the kit does come with a variety of ways and styles to build -- so there are plenty of leftover parts. I would also say this is not a beginners kit -- fitting parts and deciphering the instructions takes a measure of finesse, not something one would want in a beginner build. There are areas where it is simply not clear where a part goes - so having pictures of an actual 'Vette is helpful. Lots of trimming is needed, the glass really needs to be vacuum molded into a new part if one wants more realism. But in all, a fun build.
Fun Corvette build
This Corvette model comes with 4 different engine builds, there are plenty pieces left for building an extra motor. It comes with stock or slick tires for the back. On the stock wheels it comes with seperate center caps which are three spoke and looks good when painted the same color as the car. You can make this car height stock or raised up some. It comes with three different hoods to choose from also. It comes with racing decals which I did not use. I had a good time building this model and any chevy fan would want this.
Great Classic Kit
I built this kit as a kid. It does take a little clean up and test fitting to make things right. The kit has allot of spare parts if your a kit basher. For its age it stood up well. The interior detail is week and requires a bit of patients to get it looking good. For the intermediate modeler it's an awesome representation of the real car. For the purist some of the body detail isn't correct. All in all I still love this kit.
Not too bad for an old kit.
This kit is far from perfect, but it's an old kit and old kits usually leave a lot to be desired compared to modern ones. I didn't like the taillights, they look off, and the window fit was terrible, I had to cut the window into 2 pieces. Otherwise I enjoyed the build and am happy with the final result, would definitely build it again. The kit comes with a ton of options for motors, plenty of spare parts.
OK kit with different optional parts
Lots of flash will need to be trimmed on this kit. Glass is rather thick and distorted. I too had a hard time getting the tail lights to fit in the rear body panel. I will say though the interior is pretty well detailed but has some very large sink marks on the floorboard(4). This Corvette won't be front and center in my display case, which could just be due to my modeling skills.
Worst Ever.
Worst kit ever? It looks like they dug this thing up from the 60s. Everything on it had to be shaved and modified to fit. Nothing Fit without working on it. It was so frustrating I almost threw it away. It's no wonder it sells for so cheap. If you feel like spending an amazing amount of time on this kit trying to make it work. Then you should buy it. Good luck.
Fun
This kit is somewhat challenging but a good kit. Instructions are straight forward and well drawn. Details were good but somewhat lacking. Fit and finish were excellent. I swapped out the small block for a big block 427 with tri-carbs and added wires, hoses and linkage. I painted the exterior Black with a Red interior. I would recommend this kit to all builders.
Not a Good One
Poor fit, lots of cutting and adjusting, and a bit simple. This kit is a challenge, but not in piece count or complexity. The instructions are not very clear, the parts have a lot of flash and do not fit well. There are a lot of options; street, drag, etc, but they are tough to get exited about when some of the options just do not work due to poor molding.
Lots of Trimming
Don't know if it was the kit I have or molding on the car. I had to do a lot of trimming/shaving where the plastic meet/overlapped on the body. The tail light did not fit into the sockets and the engine did not fit in the engine bay after you installed the wheel rod for the front tire. Overall a bad model kit (or least the kit I bought)
Split Window fun
This was an older kit that was on my shelf for at least 20 years. Everything went together really well. I like to customize my cars for the most part like adding different wheels and tires, adding flocking for carpet, adding engine wiring and adding posable front wheels. This kit allowed my changes with very little trouble.
Has many options
The details kinda stink on this kit, the gaps are somewhat ok i guess. Some parts don't fit well at all. Tail lights don't really fit, have to remove some material to get them to fit. Only nice thing is all the options, most could be used on other kits
Good Split-Window model.
This AMT kit was pretty good for not only sporting the look of the car, but also managing to include some minor details that are much appreciated. Only major complain is the fact that the fitting on the hood is pretty bad. Other than that awesome Corvette.
must have vette
Was a nice build no excess molding fit together nicely no twisting has 4 different types of engines to choose from leaving spare parts for future builds could be a little more detail on the interior, exhaust and suspension. But it looks great when done
Needs a lot of prep work
This kit was quite frustrating, after opening the kit half of it was just the molding plastic rather then parts. I know trimming will naturally happen, but everything needed fixing. It was frustrating having to reform every part. Not worth the money
Good kit with multiple building options
This is quite an old mold of this kit. There is a lot of flash to trim off of the parts. It does build into a nice model, but it is not up to the standards of the newer issue models.
Nice Kit
This is an easy kit to work with. Not that many parts that most kits have. Watching this muscle classic car come together was fun. Excellent for beginners. Parts fit well.
Summertime Cruiser
Windows have to be sanded a little to fit. Lots of parts for detail work. Two different wheel combinations. More for intermediate builder. There is a drag or stock option.
63 Corvette
I had this same kit when I was a kid and misplaced it over the years. I recently acquired a replacement because it is one of my favorites

Great kit
Very clean , very detailed parts. Would be fine out of the box but with a couple detail add-ons will be a showpiece.
