Reviews : Airfix Focke Wulf Fw190A8/F8 Fighter (New Tool)

A very average kit. It’s not bad, but it’s not particularly complex to build and has a low part count is. Probably best suited for a young or novice modeler, or someone wanting a one-day build. For me the challenge was the mottled paint scheme - which I’m not particularly good at (see images) so it was nice to give it a try on an inexpensive kit and not have to worry about messing up something more expensive. BOTTOM LINE: Good value if you can find a kit for $10 to $12, otherwise probably not worth it unless you’re an FW190 fan. NOTE: I’m an average skill modeler at best. Usually I leave non-permanent fixtures (bombs, drop tanks, etc.) off my kits because I’m interested in the airplane, not extraneous add-ons. I use the following for all my models • Harder & Steenbeck CRplus with a 0.2mm nozzle - it’s way above my ability level but was a birthday present from my wonderful partner • AMMO by Mig and Vallejo Air acrylic paints - I never use oil-based paints or washes because who needs the toxic fumes and cleanup chemicals • Tamiya Extra Thin Cement and Tamiya Plastic Cement • Walthers Solvaset to apply and set decals • EZ-Line Fine for rigging • Vallejo Mecha Satin Varnish to coat finished models - if you’ve ever seen a Spitfire or B-25 or whatever in real life, they have a slight gloss sheen to them and are not matt at all.

Airfix makes very good kis. The only issues are being able to read the corresppnding numbers on the sprews. However that can be remedied by looking at the pictures. The other issue is getting the fusealage to join with the wings. Some modification is necessary in order to get a proper fit. Other than that, it is a very nice kit. Decals are first class and the historical accuracy is on point. I love building fighters and bombers, this plane has the best of both worlds. You will not be dissapoinged. Also the amount of declals that come with this kit is great. Most manufacturers leave out a lot of the landing gear warnings and exhaust warnings as well as octane labels. I am glad that airfix does not.

This is from the new set of mould of airfix. And if before this brand was synonim of nice pic, bad kit, now it surpassed many other brands. It can stay side by side with revell and tamiya. This has 2 options, fighter or bomber with winter camo. I've done the fighter, and want another to do the bomber. details are astonishing for 1/72. I do have one doubt: when i built it, the forward part of the nose had a bump into the fuselage... which I sanded because it didn't seemed right... After that, saw pics of the real ones with that bump... And... Ooops... They were right afterall... These new tools, for its price, are a competition killer. Airfix did improved a lot. congratulations.

The fit on this model was excellent. The detail for kit size was adequate. But, it was a fun kit to build
