Bachmann 40 foot log car #18849
I model SP, ATSF, T&NO primarily although I do have one GN train and one WP train. But I also have logging operations and these cars are at the center of it, as they are part of an entire Bachmann logging train. There are two, three truck Climax engines, one on each end of eleven of these cars. There is no caboose because I bought two Bachmann coaches I run on the rear end behind the helper as crew cars on a fictitious logging railroad consist. I also have built two McCloud River Rail Road trains as well. I was prepared to be unimpressed with the log loads as most I’ve seen were less than believable. I was wrong as these logs are very believable in color, shape and with tree knots in them, all painted realistically. Each car comes with six of these logs in various thicknesses and look terrific. The cars themselves are stunning with scale stirrups, scale grab irons and six truss rods also to scale, right down to the handbrake. So I did change out the stock couplers for Kadee center set, medium shank whisker couplers with a scale head. The car comes with poles for the pockets on the cars with wood grain detail, so they have to be cut to various lengths (or the same length) and painted. The loaded cars tip the scales between 133 and 140 grams. The cars do have brake rigging under the car but pretty much obscured by the truss rods. These cars are not cheap but they are definitely worth the price and you’ll not be disappointed as I can recommend them with no reservations. Well done Bachmann!
SS ACF 40' Log Car -- HO Scale
Purchased this item to add an extra car in my line up. It is well made and I am extremely satisfied with it. The logs are more realistic than some others I have seen.
