Eduard 1/48 Tempest Mk V Series 2 (ProfiPACK Edition) (edu 82122): Kit Build/Review
The Eduard 1/48 WWII Tempest Mk V Series 2 ProfiPACK Edition, 82122 is the same kit as the Eduard Weekend Edition, 84187 Plastic Kit. The main difference is that this Eduard ProfiPACK kit has more extensive decal options than the Eduard Weekend Edition of this same subject. The Eduard 1/48 WWII Tempest Mk V Series 2 aircraft kits have been lauded as the most detailed and accurate 1/48 model kits of this subject on the market, at this time, according to the Scale mate's website product reviews. Although Eduard 1/48 WWII warbird kits have fiddley multiple part sub-assemblies, the end result will be a highly detailed and historically accurate miniature replica of the actual aircraft. Rivet detail on this 1/48 Eduard Tempest Mk V Series 2 model kit rivals that of the excellent Arma Hobby 1/48 Hurricane series of model kits which also have excellent surface panel/rivet detail and precision fitting parts. As with other Eduard kits, the WWII Tempest Mk V Series 2 kit will require lots of tedious tweezer work and patience due to some of the complex subassemblies that will go into this build. I installed the photo etch seatbelt/harness parts as the kit does not include a pilot figure. I used the wing mounted external fuel tanks for my build. For my build of this aircraft, I used Vallejo Model Air acrylic paints applied with an Iwata HP-C airbrush with a 0.3 mm needle at 18-20 psi. The camouflage pattern I applied to this build was done free hand without masking. Decals were of acceptable quality and went on the model with some added Micro Sol and Micro Set decaling solutions. I installed the landing gear in the down position. The main wing flaps were also posed in the down position to increase visual interest. Added nose weight was not required for this build. I added some light weathering, gun port and exhaust stains to this model using Tamiya Weathering pigment. Due to the fiddley subassemblies and the two-tone camouflage paint scheme involved with this build, this kit is recommended for intermediate to advanced fine scale model builders with fine airbrush and decal installation skills.
