Uses for PNC-55EJ, besides ESTES Interceptor
Along time ago...I built an ESTES World Federation Star Probe using the PNC-50SP. It was a very nice kit, but was lost at altitude, in high winds, on the 4th flight, using a C6-5. I always liked the sleek design, but they discontinued the kit. The PNC-55EJ is the nosecone for the ESTES Interceptor, but is also the upscaled highly detailed nosecone of PNC-50SP and the perfect upscaled nosecone for an upscaled Hyper World Federation Galactic Star Probe and Up Powered. A 29mm tube will fit, but not much room for through tube fins and needs more bite for the Vortex Ring, so I will be going with a 24mm 40-60NM engine mount and will be able to fly on C through F motors. If you look at the PNC-55EJ it is currently one piece, but used to be 2 pieces in older Interceptor kits. I have 2 lower halves with no cockpit all RCS and might use for a boat tail.
Kudos to Estes for reissuing these classics
If your rockets tend to take on a sci-fi bent, this is a fantastic collection that can work as well for your home-brewed designs as it can as a gateway to cloning nirvana. Star of the class is the newly redesigned PNC-55CB which previously saw duty on the Odyssey and Rigel 3, but the PNC-55EJ also has its fans because of previous use on the Interceptor, Vindicator and USS Pleiades. The bulbous cockpit cone (PNC-55?)from the Xarconian Destroyer and Voyager II is included, as is the sleeker PNC-50SP which can be used to clone the World Federation Space Probe, Skytracer, Falcon Commander or if you're really adventurous, the Centuri Spacemaster. The final cone is the newly redesigned PNC-50 cockpit cone that is used in the Orion and Manta Bomber.
