Estes HiFlier XL, nice upscale from the original HiFlier, but could be modded to 29mm power
By: champfluff
The BT60 body tube, included with the HiFlier, is a great up power to 24mm motors, from the original HiFlier 18mm powered, but the BT60 can house a 29mm, or 38mm motor tube and I will be using a 29mm motor mount. A 38mm motor mod will require glassing the body tube and for me, too much work. Just redraw the fins, for through tube extensions, slot the BT60, add nose weight for a stable C/G, add an ejection baffle and you will not fry the parachute. With this mod, the HIFlier XL will see over 2,000 feet and I will use a GPS tracker for recovery. Dare this mod, if you have an large enough launch and recovery area.
A HiFlier for the cornfield set
The original HiFlier was a nice looking minimum diameter rocket with a tendency to take badly to too much power, but the XL version has no such issues. I flew mine with an E9-6 and other than windcocking in the traditional Ohio breeze, the flight was perfect start to finish. I even got lucky and had less than a mile to walk on recovery. Great looks and performance, and an easy build on top of it all.
nice rocket but a one building note

I like the styling of this kit. the huge fins make it look really nice but be careful the triangle fins would be really easy to put on the wrong way. I did not do it, but a person with less experience might make them pop fins make sure you check the grain before gluing them on
Good rocket to add to the collection
This a great rocket and great upscale... however it easily weathercocks with the slightest wind... also i recommend the kevlar and elastic shock cord for the rocket... if it does weather cock it could end up zippering... on calm days though this bird will eat up e9's all day...
Most popular rocket from Estes
A large majority of my scouts selected this model do to it's excellent achievable heights. Still a rather easy build and the kids love the way it looks

We're going to build and fly this rocket together. It's his first exposure to model rocketry, I hope he gets the bug

The grand kids and myself just finished the kit. Lots of fun to put together came out looking good. Can't wait to fly it
