The best material for 28mm miniature spears
These .04 rods are the best. I use them to make spears and pikes for 28mm miniatures. The .04 is the perfect size for a slim, realistic look. The .45 is great for a heavier spear or lance, or a sturdy banner pole. Or if you want to sacrifice realism for a sturdier result. It might not be intuitive, but I have learned the styrene rod spear is the sturdiest, best solution. Superior to steel wire spears, injection molded plastic spears, and lead/pewter cast spears. The steel wire are indestructible, but you can hurt yourself and easily damage the models because they have no give. The plastic cast spears from today's plastic kits have a great look, but easily break. The lead/pewter spears are the worst of the lot, since they take the most time to clean the mold lines, and they always get bent. The extruded plastic rod has a ton of give and springs back. It's easy to fashion a spear tip by crushing an end in a vise-grip, trimming a point with flush cutters, and then finishing with a file. Somewhat counterintuitively, this takes less time than cleaning mold lines on cast spears.
