Hobby Boss's kit of the IAR-80 is excellent and I had a blast building, painting and weathering it. I didn't know anything about this plane before purchasing the kit, but its sleek lines and country of origin inspired me to do some research and learn more about it. The kit itself went together very well. Only a small amount of putty was needed here and there. The cockpit detail was nice. The engine detail is also very good, even though not much is seen through the engine cowling. All panel lines are beautifully scribed and look amazing. The decals were a bit of work, requiring multiple applications of solvaset in order to get them to settle into panel lines. Once they did, however, they looked great. The kit has markings for two aircraft - only a few differences exist between them. No pilot figure is included and the propeller does not rotate (unless you want to do some improvised building). The cockpit offers photo-etched seat belts and seat detail. Overall, this is a great kit that I can whole-heartedly recommend to anyone interested in WWII aircraft.

I was curious about this aircraft and found out that did indeed fight for the Axis and claimed some USAAF kills, especially around the oil fields. The kit is mostly basic with some nice details in the cockpit and engine areas Not much putty needed and overall fit is good. nice decal sheet. a bit pricy for what is given, but then again if this was a Monogram kit in 1965, it would have a list price of $1.19, discounted to 89 cents, Those were the days good fillin kit for the collector, though..

Thought I would try this kit, seeing how I never heard of it before. I think it is an older kit, fit and finish of a time past. Build was fair, the decal sheet not so much, and needed putty and sandpaper to make it look presentable. Snazzy looking aircraft when finished though and as a collectors kit, not all that bad.Recommendation is with that in mind.
