Excellent set to start building a wargaming collection
I do some miniature wargaming in 1/72 for the American Civil War. I've chosen plastics because of the considerations of cost and having toddlers. I am a nitpicker, though, and I look for quality, inexpensive items to scratch that particular geeky itch I love so dearly. I will start with the single mounted man and horse. The horse rears up, it looks suitably heroic and martial, and it works well for a command stand. The other poses are also useful for wargaming, and the poses are mostly provided in multiples of three, which makes acquiring the appropriate number of poses for a purpose fairly simple to reckon out. There are one each of a boy drummer and a running flagbearer, each useful if not dynamic or perfect. The other poses wear a mixture of caps and slouch hats. There are three each of the following poses: officer, advancing, dismounted cavalryman, kneeling/reloading, and 2 poses standing/reloading. There are six each of the following poses: kneeling/firing, standing/firing, at attention, and 2 poses advancing. I like to mix the poses in this set with similar ones from other sets. That way, I can avoid the schizophrenic appearance of charging men mixed with reloading men or sterile lines of identical figures. The pieces are excellent with paint, and sturdy enough to withstand the rough play of a toddler (not that the paint would survive without a protective coat, but the model is fine). This set is great, and I fully recommend it. After painting and basing, it fits in well with the following sets I use: Italeri Set 6012 “Union Infantry with Zouaves,” Italeri Set 6013 “Union Cavalry,” Italeri Set 6038 “Union Artillery,” Italeri Set 6011 “Confederate Cavalry,” IMEX Set 505 “Union Infantry,” IMEX Set 503 “Union Cavalry,” IMEX Set 501 “Union Artillery,” IMEX Set 506 “Confederate Infantry,” IMEX Set 502 “Confederate Artillery,” and IMEX Set 504 “Confederate Cavalry.”
Italeri - Confederate Infantry
I have purchased this plastic military model for court less years and enjoy using them for my dioramas. I am starting to create regiments based upon the June 1863 command structure. I wish Italeri made different poses for this era of soldier (American Civil war). This would help me create a more diverse looking group amongst the different regiments and division. I would recommend buying this model kit and take the time to paint them.
Great detail
Really like this set. I'll start with the only negative. There were a few soldiers that have bayonets fixed to their weapon and they were not fully developed and only about 1/3 of the bayonet is there. Now for the good stuff. Loved that there is a mounted officer, great detail on each piece, some very unique poses and some of the guys can easily be painted to be Union soldiers.
Italeri Confederate Infantry Troops
Another Italeri welcome addition. To say the set is Italeri should be adequate to describe the delightful sculpting, good anatomy and clear and precise detail. Such small things as the several choices of facial hair give the set much character, and there is no flash to be found. Great for display or wargaming.
