Never built a wood ship kit?
If you've never built a wood boat/ship kit, the Midwest series are the best to start with and this one is the best of the best. Why? Because it assumes you know nothing and you will learn the basics of using the tools and CA glue on an inexpensive large scale (bigger is generally easier all other things equal). Next, try the large dingey kit for a lesson on planking in it's most simplified basic form. Next, build the 1:8 scale canoe. This will expand on planking in a way more typical of most plank on frame kits. If you're still interested, you may have caught the bug... Try a Midwest kit with simple sails/rigging. At this point, your either ready to evaluate your next step on your own or ready to try a different hobby.
