Reviews : Moebius 1954 Hudson Hornet Special

I built the 1952 Hudson Hornet convertible first, which convinced me to try another Moebius. This 1954 Hudson Hornet Special has the same great detailing of the interior and engine. I was convinced to display this one with the hood open as well because hiding the engine would be a crime. Unfortunately, I ran into a few disappointing issues with this one. First and foremost, the chassis is slightly warped. This caused the floorboard to pop loose twice before I got it cemented enough to stay. The instruction sheet had several problems I had to overcome: The front parking light lenses were identified in the steps with the numbers of the rear tail lights, and the lenses themselves were not numbered at all on the sprue. There were no numbers on the sprue for the windshield wipers. The step for gluing the door handles was completely omitted. The gas tank cap was identified correctly on the sprue and the steps, but had a completely different number on the diagram. Now I will need to try a third Moebius to determine if this particular kit was a fluke. They cost a few more dollars than some others, but the detailing, in my opinion, makes them worth a little extra.

If you are able to get this kit, do so. The heavy plastic feels nice, is forgiving and the detail on it is phenomenal. Very little flash, and the kit went together flawlessly - except for the windshield. It did not fit well at all, and once I was that deep into the kit, there was very little that I could do other than force the darn thing together. I mean, it's either trim the windshield (not a good idea) or trim the opening (which I had already painted and trimmed out with metal tape. Don't get me wrong, this kit is really superior on so many levels and the fit of every piece was flawless (except the windshield). Anyway, I very nice and unique kit.
