Reviews : Monogram M-48 A-2 Patton Tank

The similar Tamiya kit leaves this old (1960's!)Monogram kit in the dust (so to speak). I bought this kit because I wanted a cheap model to try out the paint chipping and weathering techniques I saw on the internet. Overall fit was fair to poor. The bottom hull was particularly bad and required a fair amount of putty and sanding work. It has some details but they are fairly crude. For example, all the gun barrels were solid, including the main gun. I had to drill and bore holes in each. The periscope windows were solid and I had to drill and scrape opening for the viewers. There were a number of other detail modifications (you can see them on my photos). Nevertheless, I actually had fun making these modifications and detailing. That was the purpose of this project, to develop techniques and skills. That aspect aside, you're better off spending a couple of extra bucks and get the Tamiya kit.

For the price, it is a good kit. It is well detailed, and looks impressive. There are a few things I do not like, however. First of all, the accessories are molded onto the hull, so it made it a little more difficult to paint them. Also, the back panel will hang out without a bit of work on that. The tracks are one piece vinyl tracks, with ok detail. It does come with some figures, but they are molded in two pieces: The base and the figure. They have very poor detail, in my opinion, and due to the two piece, the plastic on some parts is melted together. This looks odd, like on one of the guns molded in front of the figure that is melted to his chest. If you do choose to buy this kit, you get a great representation of the Patton, but in my opinion, the Tamiya one is better. Also, I would scrap the figures if I were you. All in all, I would recommend it to all skill levels.

I just inspected this fabulous kit that I once built as I was just beginning to add to my Eger Beaver, Weasel and Jeep and Anti-gun all of which I've collected recently. Upon seeing the kit, I noted to crispness of the parts which are wrapped in plastic and free of any deformities. The overall size of the parts seen huge compared to today's tank parts, the turret in particular seems out of the 1/35 scale so I believe it might be closer to 1/32 but I don't care much, the memories of building the model means more to me. The figures in the kit appear to be somewhat modernized as the crispness of them looks better. I will be placing this kit with my others that are Classic to me with the Weasel being the only to me that is in a combat setting. I will not be painting or weathering so that is out of the way. I highly recommend this kit to any modeler.

I gave this Tank (M48A2) Patton a lower rating not due to any significant problem,it is a good model but there are some things I think that could have been a little bit better, like when you look at the top of the hull, the hull sponson boxes are molded to it so are track adjusters,spare track and pioneer kit (shove, pick axe head, sledge hammer and axe along with both of the tow cables but this can be two fold because for for beginners who may not have a lot of patience, they would not have to deal with small parts but for people like me who enjoy tinkering with small parts for that finer detail feel we don't get that with this tank but overall this still is a fun tank to build in my opinion and a great starter tank kit for a new tank model Enthusiast. This kit is identical to the monogram kit of the same tank. Very simple with large pieces that for the most part fit together. The one difficulty is the lower hull assembly (2 Sides and the back), which was very frustrating just to get the parts to fit right. In the end I went with the imperfect fit, and used putty snd sand paper to make it look right. The parts had moderate flash and most required cleanup before assembly. I didn't worry to much about this as I got the kit for a very good price. All in all if you are willing to put in the effort as I was you will wind up with a rather nice result with not a lot of tme invested.

a great model to build it took me about 5 weeks to build it gluing painting added washes blak and brown painted little details like tools caliber guns added silver paint added a brown wash on the tracks and hand panted the fingers to.added the white decails toi highly recommended this.model it was fun to build i always say i take my time to build my models if u rush it u might mess it up or break something on it I posted pictures of it go look at them on here I hope u love it as much as I do thank you hobblinc for sending me the model I had help from my friend thank you andrea she put mud on the model I put mud on the wheels

This Vietnam era tank model was a fun and easy build. It took me longer to paint the commander and driver than build the tank. There really was no difficult areas in assembly and if you consider how long this kit has been cast in production, it was well worth any clean up needed on the parts. I remember climbing on these Pattons when I was a kid. Many moons gone by. I do like the Viet Era decals they bring back many memories. I would recommend this kit to anyone interested in this era hardware. General Patton would have conquered the world had he only had these durable babies. Well worth the time and cost. See my photos.

This is a decent kit for the price and can be made to look good. I do have some problems with it. First is the 3 piece hull that I needed to super glue together and putty the seams. The tools and cables are molded to the hull and should of been separate pieces. The kit comes with 2 crew and 6 infantry figures. I recommend just throwing them away since they are horrible. I made mine the Israeli version and the decals of the 2 white stripes did not even reach all the way around the barrel. I would recommend it for the price or cheaper if you can find it but there are better versions of this tank out there.

This Revellogram kit was one of the few I actually gave up on. Upper hull warped so badly I couldn’t make it mate to the lower hull, whatever I did. I planned to obscure the issue with gauze painted as camo netting, and then the tracks were too tight for the alignment of the road wheels on my particular kit, so the drive sprockets snapped off. That was when I admitted defeat. It can probably be built, and at this price it might be worth trying. But at my mid-level modeling talent, where it is a hobby and not something I spend multiple hours on daily, I suggest you look elsewhere.

This tank model was put out by Monogram in the mid60s late 50s. The 5 figures of infantry with it are carrying M-14s, Tommy guns, etc from that time. Its a good model, and rugged enough to survive house moving and falls off shelves. Its very customizable and the scale is perfect for this. It has a little brother in the toy M-48 tank you can see in various bagged army-men sets these days. I bought the original back in 1970 and still have it. I recommend this model. The troops are a time capsule from those days. Price is good.

Consistent with the other reviews, build this kit for practice or fun. It is a kit that can completed relatively quickly unless you are aiming for perfection, then be prepared to fill a lot of seams with putty. What I like best about this kit is the number of figures included. Body parts need help to fit. Found it interesting that the decals have changed since the introduction of this kit back in the 1960s. Now it has peace signs and 60's TV slogans.

I have been Modeling for 62 years..and built this kit back in 1966..the year I graduated high school.Sad to say that's whats stamped on the botton of the main body and turret bottom...1966 !!!The box says 2018 but it wasn't tooled now. The plastic is very hard and brittle. the Hull halves and top were very poor fitting. Had to use a lot putty.Invest in the Tamyia M-48.This model does not get my go ahead

This is a good starter kit for young builders. The parts are large and easy to handle. There is no photo etch. Joining the rubber track ends together is not easy. Most glues will not work. I put a couple of staples across the join and hide them under a road wheel. The kit is starting to show it's age. There is flash on the parts/sprue. It is easy to trim off and build up a nice entry level kit.

This was one of my first tank builds and i really enjoyed it. Very easy for beginners. This build lacks fine detail and the rubber band tracks had alot of molding marks and one of them was actually ripped. This is why i added the mud along the road wheels. All in all it's not a bad kit for the price. I have found that in this hobby the phrase you get what you pay for rings especially true!

the tank kit went together fairly well but was tricky putting the hull together as it comes in 5 large pieces but if your patient the parts will go together without to much hassle. the storage racks on the turret was a little annoying but do able i painted my in desert tan and it looks great i wish i could mount the 105 mm gun instead of the 90 mm it would have looked better still.

This is a simple kit with large pieces and no photo etch parts. it is a good kit for the young modeler or someone just starting to build military kits. The current molding of this kit is showing it's age. There is flash on the parts trees. The tracks are rubber band type that must be joined together. Most glues won't work. I staple them and hide the staples under a road wheel.

I was looking for a M 48 to expand my collection and rolled the dice on the Monogram version.....BIG MISTAKE! the lower hull ( 3 piece) was a nightmare and took more time than it should have. lots of fill and sanding and it still didn't look too good. accessories molded into upper deck. the soldier figures are almost comical. I would think real hard before buying this kit

Almost finished putting this one together. It is a very sturdy model with no frail pieces...All nicely molded and strong. Parts fit very well together and the instructions are very clear. This would be an excellent model for the beginning military modeler. Love the extra Soldiers that come with this model kit. Lots of decals for added realism from the era.

I bought this kit at a local big box store for $12.00, outstanding price. Real basic model, really large for 1/35 scale, very few parts so simple build. Tamiya makes a better kit with better fit and finish. This is a good kit for your first time doing a tank on the cheap.

I bought this tank and had a hard time putting the tracks on. I've bought other tank models and never had and issue. The trooped that come with it are fine but the soldier laying down that came with it was kind of odd looking. It's an ok model but not the easiest models

German version can be made with decals and Gelbolive paint by Revell available in this website. It- the M48 Patton was used worldwide until the 90s in some places. It was also used to great effect by the US in the Vietnam war treading through Jungles.

Looks good when done but was a bit of a hassle to put together. Tracks were hard to attach, hull was very hard to put together, and lastly the accessories were molded into the hull which made it extremely hard to paint them.

I have built other Patton tanks before so this one looks simple and easy to build. Also this will go really good with something that I have already built. So again I look forward to getting this and putting it together.

I have always loved tanks but just started building models. This was a great kit to get started with. In the end it looks pretty darn good with nice detail. Proper camo can make any model look great too.

The build went well, but I spent time cleaning the parts then I did on the build. Too much over flow on the trees. Parts trees weren't marked, had to mark them as I go. Did come out good.

Highly recommend this kit. Excellent fitting parts. Rubber tracks are warped, but straiten out nicely when mounted to the wheel assembly.

I enjoyed this kit. It went together well and I used an aftermarket decal set.

good model not many parts. went togather easy. great for collection.

I would not recommend for beginners too much filling of seams

Great piece, requiring just a few minor adjustments.
