Reviews : MPC Blue Max Long Nose Mustang Funny Car

This is an older MPC kit but is still in great shape with minimal flashing and well detailed parts. Kudos to MPC for molding the frame in one piece. Some funny car kits require you to put together the frame which can be a bit tedious. For those building this model, suggest that you mount the front axle to the frame with super glue and insert the rear axle to the frame before painting. The mounting points for the front axle are not well defined, so a bit more super glue is needed, along with sufficient dry time, to make for a solid assembly. I then detailed the front axle and the rear diff with silver Tamiya bottle paint. The decals are awesome, with bold colors and great graphics. Just be a bit careful with the large side decals. I did find that they have a tenancy to tear easily where they go over the rear wheel opening. Lastly, the driver that come with the car is a nice touch. However, after spending about an hour building and detailing the little guy, I found it does not fit in the cockpit (legs will not go under the steering wheel)!

This kit has been reissued a few times, and the molds are starting to show their age. Still not a bad kit though. take your time with it and you'll have a nice model. Also, before you start, check to make sure all the parts are in the box. Mine was missing the chassis, and I had to jump through a few hoops to get a replacement.
