Reviews : MPC 1979 Pontiac Firebird

I debated on this kit for a long time and finally broke down and did it. Having owned 4 to 5 late 70's trans ams, including 2 10th anniversary silver ones, but never the gold edition, which in '78 was the special edition, I have to say mpc did a great job replicating a top of the line WS6 4-speed with air conditioning and t-tops, meaning that all the details are there and right, 8 inch wide snowflake rims as opposed to the 7 inch none WS6 rims, front and rear sway bars, and the correct for '79, fisher body t-tops as opossed to the earlier hurst t-tops, and they even went as far as the correct T/A6.6 shacker hood scoop decal as opposed to the 6.6 litre decal used for the 403 automatic cars. With all that being said the kit is not perfect, everything is there though not acurately depicted, take for example the air conditioning compresser and condenser on the firewall, they are there but very inacuratlly depicted, and there are very minimal decals, no dash decals, which is really needed on a model of this scale, and some rim centercap decals would have been much appreciated. With all that being said this kit will take some patience and skill and it will turn out very impressive. One thing that does need pointed out and was a nice touch is that the front suspension does work, along with the possable front wheels. I really liked this kit and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a very nice replica of a top of the line '79 T/A.

This was my first larger scale build and with it came some impressive detailing and rewarding results. All parts for the kits fit well, no issues in any areas where concern can come…like on hinges and wheels. The door design is great where they fit well with solid hinges and they open and close exceptionally well. This kit comes a couple different options for exhaust and seats, one of the best options is the iconic decal set. It comes in three themes, gold, red and blue for the user to choose the perfect color scheme. Overall a very great kit with no problems

Nice detail in this kit, just take your time and with a little 'fine tuning' you can get parts to fit nicely. Lots of potential for adding extra detail on this kit, fun to build.

My Firebird is a 1/24 scale build. It was an easy build with no issues. I selected the performance engine and changed the wheels and kept the tinted windows. Good kit for beginners.

This is a great kit, the molding was good and there wasn't much cleanup on it. Interior had good detail and I liked having options on seats and engine and also on the decals.

Very nice overall kit had alot fun with the one. Got some projects I'm working on. Great for hobbits that like the bigger scale kits

All parts went together without a hitch. Sub assemblies all fit together well. No problems in any reguard.

Nice kit when finished. There was some flash but not too bad. Decals were nice.
