Previous Issue of the '37 Ford Pick up (2 n 1)
By: sagtbone
When I saw the reissue of Revell' 37 Ford pickup 2 n 1 kit with the surfboard, the box art convinced me to get this kit. However, I did not want to wait for the reissued kit, so I purchased the previous 2 n 1 kit. I was familiar with this kit as I had built the 1st issue of the kit. The kit is basically an easy kit to build but I do not recommend this kit for beginners as it has lots of small parts. There was virtually no flash on the kit. I like the fact that the kit can be built as a 37 or a 38 Ford model. However, I discovered that the high performance engine will not fit if you build the 37 version. I hope this was addressed as the new reissued kit shows the 37 version with the high performance flat engine on the box art. However, I did some modifications to my kit to make it fit. Overall assembly was relatively straight forward as I followed the instructions. When installing the interior into the cab be sure to push it into the cab completely as this will prevent the cab from sitting down on the chassis completely. And do not attach the rear fenders to the truck bed sides until you have assembled the bed unto the chassis. You want to make sure the fenders align with the wheels especially if you are building the street rod version. As mentioned there are some small parts e.g. the door handles, the window cranks, the windsheild wipers(note, be sure to open the holes in the cab so the the wipers can be installed in their proper location. And the headlight buckets are difficult to attach. I suggest using a small amount of super glue to attach these parts. I highly recommment this kit as I have two more in my to build stash. On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this kit a 9 because of the small pieces. It is a great kit for customizing as a street rod truck or as a service truck. And the decals are much better than the initial kit, the Checker's Market truck; the decals yellowed very quickly but not the reissued kit that I have.
A study in white..

A very nice kit! Two engine choices,- stock and a flathead with associated exhaust options; two ride heights, stock and lowered about 3; two hood/grill options; two wheel options. A number of parts for the ever-growing parts box!
Interior is sparse - Ford interiors were at that time. But details are nicely molded. The dash gauges are interesting - you cut them from the decal sheet and glue it onto the back of the dash! I put clear epoxy in the holes to simulate lenses. Door handles and window cranks are very nice. The steering wheel is one of the best in-scale I've run across!
The flathead is nicely detailed, with appropriate chrome options - including Edelbrock script heads.
The rear fenders are separate from the bed; the bed is part of the body along with the cab bottom/mount and front fenders - the whole thing is easy to detail. The molded-in details are amazing - there's even nuts on the underside of the bed!
The only real con I have is the mold lines are fairly large on the body; took some time with a sanding stick and fine sandpaper to get it smooth.
Flashing was minimal, but most parts needed a bit of cleaning up. Better than most, not as good as some.
The lowered front axle is chrome - I had to dechrome it for my paint scheme.
I did have a minor issue with the wheel mounts - they are pop-on, but if you use too much pressure you risk breaking the axles, but you can't get the wheels on without a hydraulic press. I hollowed out the mounting holes slightly and glued the wheels in place.
I did this one out of the box except for:
VCG by Reese bomb shifter,
Parts by Parks finned oil filter,
Southwest blanket decals for seat covers,
And rear window Ford logo and Arizona license plate from the parts stash.
Custom or Stock?

This is an excellent kit with lots of detailing options. The hardest decision was which version to build. I really liked the custom look, but didn't care much for '38 frontend, so I cut the sides off the '37 hood to give it my own custom street rod look. I had very poorly built the 1997 issue of this kit 20+ years ago which is a stock only version. While working on this new kit, I had the idea of a possible restoration of the older build and wasn't sure it could even be done. I did some research on the subject and found where several people had restored older models with very satisfying results. So, I did a complete teardown (delicate but doable), and currently re-painting and re-building. Hopefully I'll end up with a stock '37 Ford pickup that I can be proud of. I do think the restoration effort will be more satisfying than building from a new kit. I'm sure this review sounds like it's more about the older kit than the new one, but if it hadn't been for the new kit, I would have never thought of the old one. I do HIGHLY recommend this kit... and you never know what inspirations it may bring.
Revell ’37 Ford Pickup
This is Revell at its finest. About 125 parts molded in white, clear and red plastic. I love that it’s vintage, and really love that there are so many different goodies and extras to make this truck pretty unique. You could build a surfer’s dream or a farm work truck and anything inbetween. It’s a straightforward build. The instructions are good and the parts are flash-free and well-molded. There is enough detail to make it look good, but there is enough room to go for broke detailing the engine, engine compartment and even the undercarriage of the vehicle. Now, that the price is more reasonable, it is totally worth it. I think newbies would enjoy this kit. Recommended.
Cool truck

Enjoyed this build and made it somewhat different than a box build. Added custom wheels and plug wires with boots.
Pro: probably a million ways to build this truck. Easy to assemble with good instructions, also 2 ways to box build.
Cons: the fit was very good with only a few that needed cleaned up. The major problem I worked through was the fire wall and engine clearance. Fire wall hitting intake manifold and then the bell housing. Dremel tool to the rescue!
Recommend, but not for a beginner
A Fun Build

This was an enjoyable build because it was fairly straightforward with few issues. Also I really love the look of this little pickup. I built the stock version with only minor changes. This was the first build since I started back on model cars, that I was confident enough to install windshield wipers, door handles, and a exterior side mirror. The built was a bit of a confidence builder for me.
37 ford pick up

This is a level 5 kit. Box is jam packed. 2 sets of tires 2 sets of rims n 2 sets of hub caps. Decals are nice with dash and a few scripts. Surf board with decals for front n back. 162 parts. Everything will need to be assembled. Truck bed, frame, and interior. Should turn out to be a nice build. 2 hood n grill options. So many choices with this one.
One Of The Best
Really enjoyed building this kit. Leave it to Revell to make a kit with detailed instructions, no mismatched numbers and offering a lot of options. I used some wheels from another kit and agree with prior reviewer to use the stock front end. Nicer appearance. Would highly recommend this kit to a moderately experienced builder.
Heirloom LEVER ACTION shocks
I had to trim the exhaust channel on the frame to move it toward center to align with the stock manifold. The no chrome carburator specified is nonexistent. I cut one from the dual carb chrome option to perfectly fit the bill. I'm hoping for a great finish with awesome detail WORK IN PROGRESS
A lot of options, instructions could be a bit clearer

Loved this build. Second hardest build i've done with customizations. The instructions could be a bit clearer, especially with the the different options and fenders. Overall, very please with this build, the kit. Very little flash. 95% perfect fit through the build.
Awesome 37

Really nice kit. No flash everything fit together nice. If you plan on using different rims. Regardless of what version stock or custom, use the stock front end. Gives better tire clearance. Not a kit for beginners. In pics mine is the metallic lime green and black. Enjoy.
Very good kit
Very good kit. Not flash to speak of and the parts fit together well. I’m a novice model builder and this kit came out better than most of my models.
