The Amazingly fun Peterbilt 359
this kit is awesome it is so fun to build and because it is a semi truck there is always going to be a lot of was you can build this kit you can do so much you can turn it into a drag truck, a flatbed wrecker, a normal work truck, and many many more ways to build this wonderful kit the experiences i had with this kit were 100% positive the engine was very nicely detailed and just looked good details in the kit are very nice and this kit is easy to assemble in fact some pieces just snap together this kit is so much fun i had a lot of fun i built it into a flat bed wrecker to use for a shop truck to transport cars back and forth and it looks awesome i also cut the frame and extended it 8 scale inches then used thread to cut the sleeper cab off same with the interior portion once done i took square rods of styrene cut those and used those to make a frame for the flatbed to sit on then took sheets of styrene ( which can be purchased on hobbylinc as well ) and placed that on the frame for it i took two or three sheets of thick styrene and glued them together with super glue and plastic cement glue with zig zag beads then clamped and let dry for 48 hours to ensure it was solid then i measured out and made cuts to these styrene pieces then took a dremel and sanded it and rounded it off to make a flat bed wrecker frame after that i took those left over square rods and made a head ache rack once completed i put that on the frame and sanded a minor little depth right behind the head ache rack and put a which there i then took the styrene rails cut them and placed them on the sides of the styrene sheets then took styrene rods again and made the lower lift gate on then took the same control buttons from the GMC wrecker kit and put one of those on the side then after that i took the two boxes for the Mack r conventional snap TITE kit and used those for the hydraulic boxes then after that i painted and assembled everything PROS: its and awesome kit, cheap, easy to assemble, has great detail, can be built in many different ways CONS: nothing this is an awesome kit!!! if you are buying this kit and don't want the sleeper cab just realize that is not separate from the cab so you will have to cut it off but that is very simple just take sewing thread and go back and forth cutting it secured to a table or if you have access to power tools and or hand tools you can cut it with a hack saw or something i have access but its safer to go with the sewing thread for you and the kit but other then that this kit is awesome and i hope you buy it and have as much fun as i had with it
They don't say this kit is a SNAP-TOGETHER
I can't believe all the reviews on this website saying this kit is easy to modify They obviously never built an AMT or ERTL. I think this kit sucks, because, for one, there is hardly anything to do on it, it's like all already together, molded together. There is nothing to do on the frame except snap the front axle on, and snap the one piece rear suspension/axles on. If i'm going to put together a kit I WANTS PARTS, lots of them I might be different, but I LOVE building up the frames and chassis-it's one of my favorite parts. I like the multiple piece crossmembers and gluing them to the frame rails, wherever I want them, if i want to modify the truck, and have an option of where i want to put the suspension to (makes it easier to shorten or lengthen the frame). I also can't stand it when the sleeper is molded to the cab; like no one would ever want to have a day cab (sleeperless) model. Revell gives NO options on this kit. Tires suck to. Wheels are not to scale and not deep enough to even look real. The entire kit is so easy a 4 year old can build it Needs no glue, at all, I don't understand why they don't advertise it as a Snap-together Even the head lights are molded to the grill and that just snaps into the hood. Mirrors; just one piece, snaps in, done. Clearance lights on the roof, just snaps in, and there's no way to build it without them if one so wishes. Other things that bother me: the mud flaps are like 6 (scale) past where they should be, the battery box mounts (with the entire bottom of the box) are molded into the frame and the same for the fuel tank mounts; makes it almost impossible to create anything other version beside like it is on the box. The fuel tanks are only two pieces and has an ugly seam done the middle on the front and back and that makes it impossible to remove if you want to keep them chrome... just a very very poor design. I give it a rating of 1 on a scale 1 to 10.
Awesome products of revell in the historic series
I love this kit to say the least it is an awesome kit and so much fun to build I have always had fun with building semis and what I love on this kit so much is the price 20$ that's the same as the GMC plow kit unlike moebius who's kits on this site are almost 60$ that's triple the price of this!!! although it is a low price it is not low quality now a lot of parts on this kit snap together but it isnt a beginners kit is has over 110 pieces it is 11 7/8 inches long and does need to be painted and there are some pieces that dont snap and require glue it is not a curbside kit is does feature a very nicely detailed caterpillar 6 cylinder engine and the hood tilts forward! which I absolutely love the tires are vinyl and big due to this truck being very big in real life its molded in white has your water slide decals for me I just built it box stock and put a low boy trailer behind it as it is a work truck i loved the way it turned out this kit has awesome decals it features and american flag some teeth which I didn't really care for found it quite childish for a semi kit and some decals for the side which you can see in the picture of this kit i just love the shear detail in it did not expect that for a 20$ semi so super pleased with that PROS: relatively cheap, easy to build, fun to build, looks very good, highly detailed, features a engine, has a nice interior, can be built hundreds of ways, no flash CONS: in my opinion there are no flaws with this kit I live IT! so if you are wanting to buy this kit yes most of it snaps together it has a engine it is a skill level 2 it has a nice interior with coffin cab sleeper and has a lot of cool decals i love it and i hope you guys and gals will to with that said if you buy it have fun it is an awesome kit.
Can be good and bad
Personally I loved this kit for the price. Great value. They dont tell you that alot of pieces are snap on but that could be a good or bad thing . If this kit taught me anything its to read the reviews first. I preferably always try to get skill 5 models but this was my first tractor so I was ok with it being a skill 4 . Although here its not advertised as a skill 4 my box has the same item number and pieces but says its a skill 4 . Mine didnt come with the grille decal of the teeth though and my box says historic series on it . Once again item numbers are exactly the same. I wouldnt consider it a skill 4 though more like a skill 2 because of all the pieces that snap. Pretty much anything on the outside of the truck snaps on (air horns, mirrors) That can be a good thing because you wont have any glue/cement marks anywhere on the truck. But some people just dont like any pieces to snap at all . Personally I didnt mind because it made the final product that much nicer. If you dont want to snap pieces on you can always cut the piece off that snaps in and glue it. I actually had to do that with the side mirrors because if you push to hard and it doesnt go in there is a few pieces that are very fragile . This was actually my favorite kit I've ever done. I have only done about 10 lifetime though. Pros: easy to put together and all pieces fit great. Outside pieces snap so no cement marks on your paintjob. Awesome decals to give it a unique look among semi's. Cons: alot of pieces snap and its not advertised. Overall I still give it 5 out of 5 . I guess it depends what your looking for but would also look great in any collection just because of sheer size on a 1:25 scale . Definitely recommend for all skill levels to give this one a try.
Note if you are a beginner be you 7 or 70 this is a great kit
I got this kit because I wanted this model in my collection. Yes it was easy to put together a lot of snap here and there. But then I also enjoy just building them. Of course you should know. I am retired have been for about 10 years now. My kids on occasion buy kits as gifts. My daughter bought a snap together and I thought what in the world. She said she wanted to display it in her office. Needless to say she was amazed when I let her know the next day it was ready. When she came to pick it up l explained why I was able to finish it so quick. She then apologized for getting something so easy to do. She knows I enjoy the challenge of building models. Then I explained that I enjoyed doing it and why. I told you I am retired that means I have great grandchildren and she helped me find a project I can do with actually with any child. So when we do these reviews let's remember it may not be a challenge for you but your child may enjoy it with you. I'm not saying not to state the easy with it goes together. The real challenge I found on this kit was to put on a good coat of paint and get the decals on right. Sorry about rambling on but I hope you found this useful. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME
This is one kit I like
I've built this kit several times people claim it's a snaptite kit no where in the description says it's a snaptite model. Sure some parts are snapped in place but I had to glue mine the parts doesn't stay in place. It does say glue and paint required in the description of the kit.it doesn't classify in snaptite gatagory. Yes it is simple kit to build and I've bought several because I customize mine and no two are exactly the same. Same kit but different trucks as to the way mine are customize and people say you can't customize them with over 50 years experienced in model building I find this kit a great customizing kit.everyone has an opinion on kits and I enjoy building any model truck kit. It's all in the imagination to how you can custya kit I hardly ever build a box stock kit I'm always bashing kits using parts from other kits and to me I'd buy this kit everyday
Very Good Kit & Model
I love this kit (and its sister, the Kenworth W900)! The price is great, the parts fit is excellent, the chrome is great, the instructions are good, and Revell has not gone down that ridiculous more parts is better path. I've already built three of these and three of the Kenworth W900 kits, finishing each one a little different, and bashing them into whatever I choose. Revell's two low-cost big-rig kits (this one and the Kenworth W900) do not have contest-level detail, but they do have satisfying detail, and are so relaxing and non-frustrating to assemble. I've built three of each, I have two more kits of each on hand, and there's no telling how many more of each I'll eventually build. I'm currently finishing one as a stake-side flat-bed instead of a semi-tractor. I also plan to build one as a one-piece tank truck. After that, who knows? Good kits, fun to build, and GREAT values! Great semi model
I really enjoyed building this truck, and yes, it is a snap tite style kit, but it still requires some fitting and gluing of ALL parts. The detail is good, no flash on any parts and everything fit together nicely. The things I wasn’t a fan of were the molded on windshield wiiers, I think they would be better as a seperate part, the chromed fuel tanks can’t be kept chromed and eliminate the seams, and the tires don’t fit the rims very well, these are small things though and easily fixed. I didn’t use the kit decals, I used some Goper Racing decals and leftover decals from the parts boxes, I did a bit of research and looked at some pics of Peterbilts for ideas on paint/ decal combos, this is a pretty nice kit and whether you’re new to modelling or an old hand it ‘s a fun build.
Wow, this was a really fun model to put together!
Revell really made a very nice semi-truck. While some features of the model have a snap-tite feel to them, the overall model is very nice and huge! The engine is massive! The cab is massive. The separate frame is massive. You get the point. I was really impressed with the kit. The kit has 116 parts in all, and you will use everyone. They are all clean and flash free. The detail is really nice. The parts go together nicely, but I recommend test-fitting every piece and please carefully consider when and how to paint. It will result in an outstanding replica of a big rig. The only real detraction was that the decal flashes are kind of thick, but they settled well with Microsol. The cost is outstanding for this model. Highly recommended for any level modeler.
Level 4 ?????? 2 more Like It
After unboxing this kit I sat it back on the shelf a year and a half later I picked up a chopped top Peterbilt cab at a model car show and decided that it would be a good fit for this truck and with a lot of cutting and modifications to the interior and chassis turned it into something. I did not care for the preassembled chassis and cab in this kit and the lack of detail. This kit should be labeled as a snap together kit no glue needed the box is labeled a skill level 4 it should be labeled skill level 2 for beginners I am no professional builder but I do like a good challenge to test myself I was not impressed with this kit and I would not buy another I guess that is why they are priced so cheap you get what you pay for
Easiest Pete of all time!
Wow, what can i say ! Such a great warm up truck model. This kit is a confidence builder for anyone who would like to start plastic kit models. The chrome comes off very clean from the trees, and the fit is nothing but excellent! Super duper clean parts with hardly any flash. I like building all types off big rig trucks and all sorts of different trailers. My collection dates back to the early 1970's with most of all survived. Try these trucks, as i did, White Road Boss, Diamond Reo, White Western Star, Kenworth K-123 cabover among others. I enjoyed building this kit, it was fun and i had no issues with any part of the build.
Great entry for rigs
This kit is really great! Everything lines up and falls into place real easy. The water slide decals function perfectly. Not a huge parts count but there is enough there for a enjoyable build. Highly recommend this one for someone new to the hobby or getting back into after a long break. You can build this bone stock but I'm sure there are plenty of aftermarket parts for this because I see this as something that can be customized like crazy! I really enjoyed this build and I'm positive anyone who likes building automotive models would enjoy this kit as well!
Peterbilt
I love this kit it is a lot of fun to build it is an awesome looking kit the only problem I have with this is that it is basically a snap tite and this kit is a lot of fun to build just like the kenworth it is very detailed has a very nicely detailed i6 caterpillar engine and it comes in a big box which is always exciting to get I definatly want to get another one of these kits as they are a lot of fun to buiild and the customization is endless on these kits I would give this a 9.5 out of 10 stars as this kit is a lot of fun and easy on the wallet for only 19.95!
Peterbilt 359
I would highly recommend this kit for anyone who wants to start building highway trucks. The frame is already put together so you don't have to worry about getting the rails straight. The tractor goes together very well. Everything fits this is what I love about Revell models they go together with out having a bunch of problems. It is a great kit if you want to do some detailing and make it look like the real thing. I built mine in about three weeks. I took my time and enjoyed building it. Here's a few pictures of the end result. Have fun and enjoy the build.
***Very good/detailed kit***
I was impressed with the detail of this kit. I've been out of modeling for quite some time and this kit attracted my attention, not only because I love big rigs, but also the value and detail involved. I ended up modifying the kit a little by extending the frame, adding a larger front bumper and visor. I enjoyed the instructions, really easy to follow. I'll be buying several of these kits to try different changes and modifications. I recommend this kit to anyone who loves big rigs and who wants to have a great model when completed. S.A. Lund - WA.
Max it out
This kit is a great kit. Out of the box you can make a beautiful model. But with a little imagination. It makes a great platform to modify and customize. Not difficult. But has plenty of details that can be expanded on. To create something special. My kit that I modified and added scratch build parts to. Won a first place in a small town model contest. And with a little more attention to it. Took a second place in June 2022 at the IPMS show in Sacramento California. I'm looking. So it has great potential for the creative mind.
Very easy kit to build that looks great with some detailing
Similar to its sister kit, Kenworth W900 Aerodyne, this has a low parts count that assembles well because everything fits and lines up. The wheels are extremely soft vinyl that crease. Revell needs to make tires that are hard and more firm. Most parts friction fit but I used model cement anyhow. The slots that fit the interior and body onto the frame are visible from the exterior but not too bad. Great easy kit to assemble that looks fantastic with some detailing.
Peterbilt 359
I think these buildup great. Yes originally brought out as a snap kit. One reviewer stated in his review heading They do not say this kit is a SNAP TOGETHER. And said that the kit sucks. Not every AMT kit is a great kit. I personally like these kits a lot. There is a lot of room for adding on visors, airfoils, different decals. Not everyone can build an AMT,?or ERTL. Every modeler has their own skill set, and building level.
Great 1st time Big Rig
Great kit to got started building Big Rigs. Frame comes as one piece so you wont have uneven wheel stance. Cab & sleeper are one unit. Ease of assembly cuts down a lot of time building this kit. Unconventional tire and rim set up, but is way better than other kits where the tires don't want to stay on the rims, May have to ream some holes out or it's very much like a snap tite. Would recommend this kit highly.
Best kit I ever bought
This is probably the best kit that I ever built. No flashing, no problem fitting parts, and everything fits tight. I suggest that a novice builder try one of these first. It will not frustrate you at all. I haven't finished mine yet (allowing paint to cure). But I'm sure that it will be one of the best models I have, and I have a bunch. Hats off to Revell for a quality model kit.
Truck looks great!
Put this truck together and it looks great! Didn't have to sand the mold lines very much, there is also great detail on this kit. I was very pleased with this product. For the guy that went on his baby rant about this kit.....it's a level 2! Meaning it's going to be easy to put together! And the kit is very mic to scale....you must not get around trucks much....
Peterbilt
i love semi trucks cause the modifications are endless unlike a super car or hper car like a buggati veron so when i got this kitn i expected it to bee a glue together but it was a snaptite:/ so there was not really a lot i could do but if you like big rigs and hate glueing kits then you should consider this one its not bad i just dont like that it is snaptite
A fantastic model
By: iacon6
This model is very easy to build. It's also very accurate and I think that Revell did a great job on the molds. The pieces are very easy to work with and I might purchase another one so I'll have it in a different color scheme. The decal sheet is fantastic and very easy to work with. Recommended to all because this model kit is just fantastic.
My second attempt at a truck
Very little modification for fitting hood to cab some twisting. plenty of detail cab, engine and drive train. Very little molding flash. And it's a snap tight. Still needed a little glue here and there. Will be good for a first or second time truck build. makes me want to get another Semi, Like the Kenworth w900.
Good beginner model
I've only built a few models so far, this is my second truck, and I liked how simple this one is. Most parts just click together after you sand off the extra lines of plastic. The frame on mine was just a little twisted but I taped it to a piece of wood and used hot water to get it straight. Pretty easy fix.
Great for the young'uns
I'm the type of person who can't justify buying two of the same thing. Which is why I'm glad that this truck exists, because the other kid I have also wanted a truck when his brother got the Kenworth W900 model. Having some variation is nice. This is also snap-fit which is very child friendly.
Easy truck to build.
I loved building this truck. You don't have to be a pro builder to make this truck look good. But you can detail it as little or as much as you like. I think mine looks awesome two tone black and orange. I also built the kenworth W-900, its a great truck as well. Looking forward to building more.
Great kit
This is a great kit. Went together easily. Only thing I didn't like was the tires. They seem to be to thin. Other than that everything else was great. This would be a great kit for a beginner. Been putting models together for years and this is my first tractor.
Great Rig for First Time Truck Builders
This a very nice truck, and is a simple and quick build. While the AMT truck kits are for more advanced modelers, this kit has fewer parts, and is a great entry point for those wanting to build a truck but may be intimidated buy the more complex kits from amt.
Great part fit
This kit has excellent detail and is a pleasure to build. The parts almost fit together like a snap kit, but glue is required. This makes building the engine and chassis very easy since there are a lot of parts to these assemblies.
Peterbilt 359
Very happy with hobbylinc truck got here quicker then expected. The truck went together great its the first big rig I've built and I would recommend this truck to anyone to buy. Thanks again to hobbylinc and staff
Peterbilt 359 build
I purchased this kit recently on the spur of the moment. It was my first truck build and I will say, this kit didn't disappoint. With lots of time and patience, this kit can yield amazing results. Well worth it.
Very Basic
This is a very basic kit.It will look ok sitting on a shelf from a distance but up close you can see all of its flaws. Easy to build and to gain experience to move up to the better quality of the Moebius model kits
Enjoyable kit
This is an excellent inexpensive, well fitting semi kit for someone starting in commercial truck building. And its a fun simple kit that is easily modified for a more experienced builder. At a minimal price.
4 yr old
one review was that a 4 yr old could build this kit.maybe he is.It is a nice kit to get started.I am into ww2, now into big rigs.maybe the 4 yr old can cry later,I will make it nice, see you soon.
enjoyable build
By: yeloox
Had fun doing this build. Tried a few things on it that I had read about, just wished I had the lights before the build. forgot how much fun it was to build a truck like this, now to do another.
Great Model
This semi was one of the best semi trucks I have ever built. The chrome is wonderful, part fit is great, and it just looks cool. The detail is not the best but it is still a fun and easy build.
Peterbilt 359
Nice clean crisp lines, no to minimal flashing. Should detail very nicely. This is a rainy day project, so as of yet no cons, except it could have a few add-ons. Should be a good build.
Great for beginners
I've built 2 of these trucks. Very nice trucks for those who just started building models. Frame might be a little warped. But that's the only problem I've had with it
Easy build
Not at all a hard kit to assemble. Not a lot of flash, nice fit, room for additional details. Not highly detailed but that leaves room for a lot of modification and personal touches.
The peterbilt I did.
Great kit. Almost snapped together. I opened the doors on mine. Went with the purple paint. Would build it again. Really easy instructions. Went together easy. Highly recommend.
Was fun..
Being new at doing modles was fun to build...parts fit together really good..the downfall on this modle the tries never fit right always a gap other than that was a fun build...
Nice kit for beginners
This is a pretty nice kit. Goes together easily and looks nice when completed. Instructions were simple and very well drawn. Detail was pretty good for a simple kit.
truck
I'm not really that much in to model trucks but my dad is so when I gave this to him for his birthday he just flipped out hes a real fan of model cars and trucks
Good looking pete
Good model, was a joy to put together. I would say beginners would have no issue with it and advanced modelers will find plenty of ways to modify if they want
Excellent model
Probably one of the best made models I have put together. All the parts fit exactly how they were supposed to, excellent detail, minimal flashing. Well done.
Fun build!
Built this a while back, but wanted to add a review. Not difficult, and looks great when completed. Take your time and you will have a nice looking truck!
Challenging
This is filled with issue hood would not line up with the body same with doors did get them to work . It was challenging all the way but I made it work
Amazing
Great build I'm in the middle of the build and it's a great deatild kit. Alot of parts and just fun to build I'll post what I have built now
Love this kit
This kit is a wonderful kit and easy to modify, it uses the same frame as the kenworth w900 kit. I love this kit and plan on getting a few more to modify.
Pete 359
Nice build turned out pretty good not too much flash easy to put together very nice detail if you looking for a Peterbilt 359 it's a must-have
great starter kit
good economical entry level kit to get started in semi building I bought it for a slot car drag truck can't wait to get it done pics. to follow
Peterbilt 359 Conventional
This product good because all the parts fit and the instructions are detailed so you know what part goes where. I highly recommend this product.
Very nice kit
First off yes this is a snap kit but with over a hundred pieces it is very nice, goes together easily, displays nicely and has good detail.
Very Good Kit!
By: jp8_24
This was a very easy one to build. Great decals if you are interested in using them. Very detailed and all that comes with a great price!
number two
this kit is also a snap kit. does not take away from the overall look. simple kit, broad paint options make these kits a must have
Great therapy for my hands.
Started on it last night,I am going through chemo treatments and lost some dexterity in my hands. The larger parts are a godsend.
Great build for a great price.
Very fun and detailed model kit. Excellent fitting parts and directions. Will be buying some more of these in the future.
Great model, great price recommend it too everyone.
If you never built a Tractor no time like the present you will enjoy this Build and it is a great add to any collection.
EASY BUILD
From the moment I started to the moment I ended it was a blast to build easy to follow instructions and quality pieces.
Love this kit
This was my first big rig kit. I really enjoyed this kit. Will definitely be purchasing a few more for my collection.
Awesome kit to build
Kit has alot of detail and instructions that are very explained also a good kit to add details to also and customize
Very easy
Model set was easy and the instructions detailed and explicit. Very nice truck to build, had fun with this one.
Pretty good kit.
This was my first truck model and it was simple enough as a starter but complex enough to keep me interested.
Great Starter Kit
This is a great kit not only for the newbie in the hobby, but for anyone who is wanting to building semis :)
Great Kit
Great kit at a great price, Kit would be good for a beginner all parts are big easy to paint and assemble
Has a few fitting issues
Easy to build but the cab is a pain to line up and the tube connecting to the air filter doesn't line up
Great kit
Easy to build for the experienced modeler. I detailed all parts and painted it to match an actual truck.
nice kit to customize
very nice kit to customize I have bought a few of these stretched the frame, custom straight pipes
Nice Rig
it was easy to put together. it was fun to build. i put a flatbed behind it and it looks awsome
