A Good Start For A Very Custom Build
Back between the mid 1970's and early 1980's to help pay for college, I was among some of the first EMT-A's certified in Georgia. I live in what was a rural area and the funeral home's hearse doubled as an ambulance. If someone was seriously injured or very sick, a red light attached to the top of the hearse, the siren was turned on and it would race to the scene. In many cases there was no one to attend to the patient, the driver lust drove like hell and hoped the patient would be alive when they reached the hospital. In 1974 the state of GA decided that every county in the state should have modern, fully dedicated emergency ambulances. In our case it was a small box truck with plenty of rescue and life support equipment in back -- an emergency room on wheels. Since I was working as an EMT out of a hearse initially, the new, dedicated ambulance finally allowed the EMT's to use the training they had received. We also saw a significant decrease in the number of deaths while in transit to hospitals, whether by hearse, private vehicle or in the back seat of a cop car. This model is to be chopped up somewhat, the frame extended and the box portion of the ambulance will be mounted on the back. Fortunately, a modeler on eBay makes and sells the box portion of the ambulance we had originally. Working from pics of that old ambulance, we're going to build the best likeness of that old 1974 Chevy truck with a big ole 454 ci under the hood. The seller of the rear ambulance box suggested the GMC pickup snow plow model as a base kit to build the ambulance. I make my own waterslide decals, so the lettering will be relatively easy and I don't plan to finish out the box or treatment area of this ambulance but may do so at a later date. I've only just begun this project and it will be a challenge, but if it turns out okay I just may build as second model to donate to the local EMS. I'm also looking for a mid-1930's through early 1940's fire truck to customize to make a replica of our first fire truck. My father helped get the used truck into the county, repaired it, painted it and got it into service around 1950. It would be a special item to me if I could get a replica done. If anyone knows of a source for a variety of older fire trucks, then please contact me with details. As far as cons go to this model, there are no more than any other model. Fitment is always something to be on guard for; however, I plan to modify this model so much, will discard the snow plow and the truck bed, I don't plan to add comments later when the build is finished. I'll post pics and discuss the mods used to get the end result.
1977 GMC Plow kit From revells truck series
First off i love this kit it is so awesome i have bought multiple of these because they are so fun to build there an awesome kit they have great detail in them and are a lot of fun to build they go together pretty easy and have little to no flash on them this kit exceeded my expectations and then some it is such a good kit and can be done in so many ways and look reall good for EX lift it and make it a mudder or a rock crawler or lower it and make it a pavement princess or keep it stock height and make it a plow truck, small dump truck, work truck, flatbed, farm truck, the possibilitys are endless with this kit and the nice thing is it has a nicely detailed cab and an engine to go with the unlike some of revels other kits such as the 77 wrecker or the jeep wrangler this kit has 116 parts and full snow plow setup so if you bough the f150 from the truck series and wanted to make that a beaten up snowplow/work truck i'm sure it is possible with some modifications PROS: Has a full plow setup, has an additional bumper which can get put on Lindbergs ford crown vic police kits, has an Engine, has a detailed cab CONS: exhaust is built into the chassis, some times the bumpers like to fall off with the pros and cons said i highly recommend this kit to anyone with a couple of skill level 2 kits under there belts providing that this kit may have some parts in it that are difficult for beginners such as a multi piece bed and some other things hopefully this helps you decide if you get this kit or not but if don't you should consider picking it up later on
1977 GMC plow kit by revell
This kit is awesome it is so much fun to build and every time i build it i am so happy with how it turns out it always looks good and never dissapoints me i have fun with it and i always build it differently this kit is 8 and 1/16 inches long and features 103 parts it is molded in white has water slide decals and is a skill level 2 so paint and glue are required for assembly of this kit it features 1 very shinny chrome tree which includes you chrome valve covers, a cb radio antenna, bumpers and much more, then there are about 4 or 5 different white molded parts trees and the cab this kit has an optional roll bar, Jerry can, spare tire, and plow the first time i built this kit i made it a plow kit for a diorama that i was doing then the second time i bought this kit i used it for a mud truck and swapped the tires and suspension from the jeep wrangler kit and put those on this then the third time i turned it into a brush truck for the fire dept every time i worked with this kit i never had a single problem with it always easy and fun to assemble and never dissatisfied with it for me i never had any flash on it PROS: fun kit to assemble, worth the 20 dollars, easy to assemble, has separate engine, nicely detailed CONS: has unrealistic parts like a fuel injection piece from what looks like a bel air or corvette and has a chrome stirring wheel other then those two cons this kit is perfect awesome kit worth it and so many different ways you can build this kit i love it and will continue to buy it.
gmc pickup
this kit is awesome i have loved Revells truck series even fro m the first to the most recent f-350 and Ram Charger and this certainty was no disappointment this kit looks good and is built very well I love the look of it i think it looks great and is one really cool kit in general this kit comes with a couple cool little options one is the sun roof you can install if you want the roll bar with two kc lights and an antenna along with a brush guard and a whole plow setup this kit is a 1/24th scale and is pretty big 9 inches long and about 3 and a half inches wide it is stock height and comes with some cool rims almost reminding me of American Racing out law 2's this kit also comes with bed rails, a jerrycan, and an extra tire that mounts to the back of the kit when i built this kit i had no difficulty's building it it went together simply which is expected for these kits by Revell i had a little bit of flash but it didn't take long to get rid of it this time round i built it just to build it but next time around i may lift it 6 inches to scale PROS: Lots of cool accessories, detailed kit, has an engine, part of the truck series, easy to put together CONS: NONE!!! I love this kit and I highly recommend this kit just make sure you have built a couple kits before you attempt this kit as it does have over 110 pieces it may prove difficult to less experienced modelers
Gmc pickup in revells truck series
This kit is fantastic i love it so much it is so much fun to build and goes together really well another awesome kit by Revell it features 2 or 3 small tree sprues for our snow plow has 103 parts its a 1/24th scale molded in white with clear and chrome pieces and 4 soft vinyl tires it is 8 1/16 inches long 3 3/4 inches wide and 3 3/8 inches tall the bed is for separate pieces the man tub then the 2 side walls and the tailgate 6 if you want to count the 2 tail lights as separate pieces then there is the pieces for the rollbar the front piece and the two support beams then the flood lights and the cb antenna then the Jerry can and the spare tire which I didn't use for it as it looked really weird but other then that this kit is awesome i used it as a snow plow bought it in march just built it basically box stock and i use it for a garage diorama i sprinkle snow in the parking lot and set up the plow on it in the winter time but in the summer the plow get put away for the season just like to have fun with the kit PROS: comes with plow, roll bar, flood lights, CB antenna, Jerry can, spare tire cover, enforcer brush guard, minimal flash CONS: engine is a V6, fuel injector is from a 60's corvette i love this kit other then those little flaws but that's not hard to change i hope if you pick this kit up you will have as much fun as i had with it
Hey, snow plow!
OK, when was the last time you built a pick-up kit that included a snow plow? :D Lots of possibilites for the beginner to scratch builders. I had a real '78 with a plow I used to rebuild every summer after beating it up in the winter. For this build, I'm going to hinge the lift part of the plow and add a hyd. lift cyl made from two sizes of K+S alum. tubing and some shrink tubing (for the outer cyl. detail). BTW, for you detaillers, check out prod # AKI229. Much more scaled for the lift chain for this kit than the Verlinden chains (and its pre-rusted!!). I'm building the truck itself fairly stock (out of the box) and if I can get all the plow bits to work I'll get a second kit to build a monument to my old real truck, Old Blue. About the kit, the basic model is nicely molded. Some parts may be tricky for beginners (bed and tailgate, rear cab bulkhead, trans and tranfer case and drive shafts) but take your time and test fit all the parts before glueing them together. It would have been nice to include the option for an older carb, air cleaner, and manifold but this is an easy fix for kit bashers. The frame and running gear really set this kit apart from other pick-up truck kits. The plow part of this kit is begging for some details and this might the project if you want to start learning to scratch build and detail models.
GMC Pickup truck
I love this kit it is so much fun to build and every time I have built it i had a lot of fun I like how the bed has separate pieces makes it so much easier to be able to paint the bed black to make it looks like bed liner or a rubber mat for what you would actually put into your truck bed I also love the plow I love how you can put it on any car I've seen someone who put this plow on a 1977 Pontiac Trans AM for a apocalypse diorama and the plow is very detailed and has very nice details in it and this kit has 103 parts unfortunately the kits plow does not come with chains to hold the plow up like a real snow plow would do on a truck when i built this kit i built 3 of them and made a fleet of snow plow kits and i built one other one that was a lifted build it has the tires from the jeep wrangler Rubicon and blacked it out and tinted the windows and made towing mirrors and built a custom flat bed for it as well and swapped the engine out for a 454 Chevy big block I sold it to one of my friends and unfortunately don't have any pictures of it but I defiantly want to build another one like it PROS Clean crisp molds, Fun to build, endless opurtunites CONS: some times the bed is a little difficult to build and assemble
Great kit - with or without the snowplow
I'm from East Texas and live in Florida. I know nothing about snowplows! So, I can't comment on it other than all the parts of the snowplow like a little mini-kit in a separate bag. I would recommend this kit, and here's why. It builds into a really good, accurate looking pickup, that can be detailed in the extreme! Even small details would make this truck pop! Yes, it does show it's age, and there are problematic fitment issues (especially with the interior tub and the cab itself) but the size and room for improvement are limitless! The price and fact it's white plastic molding make it worth every nickel. I decorated mine with metal tape, electrical tape and drilled out the grill and reinstalled my own mesh to make it personalized. Careful painting makes the interior pop and looks really good. The decals are perfect and really compliment the model overall. I strongly recommend this kit for someone who wants to go above and beyond stock.
Plow Kit
First of this is a great kit I have ordered many and I love them there are about 116 parts on the kit so there are quite a bit less then I expected but that's okay I had a lot of fun with this kit and will continue to have fun with it pros on this truck is that you can take the plow pieces and out them on basically any truck kit and another pro is that it has an engine unlike the GMC wrecker kit cons in my opinion is probably the plow that there isn't a little more detail and if you put it were it is supposed to go it is really far forward so I don't put it on the mount but other then that it is a really cool kit fits well and looks good on the shelf and it comes with a Jerry can and a spare tire plus the plow and roll-bar and bed rails which I used on a 55 Chevy step-side kit I have and the decals on this kit comes off easy and stick well there were no regrets with this kit and I highly recommend this kit and many others in the truck series
Really fun kit
I had a really nice time assembling this kit. The molding is top notch...very little flash and everything fit together nicely. The instructions are clear and detailed as expected from Revell, and the decals are neat. I usually stick to older model cars, but I really wanted to build a 4x4 and there aren't a lot of options out there. This was a great choice...I almost did a stock build but decided to make it into a service truck without the plow that closely resembles a truck I drove years ago at one of my first jobs on a landscaping crew. There are plenty of options for you to build a completely stock looking truck or a service truck as pictured with a plow and everything. Or, if you want, this kit will easily lend itself to extensive modification...I've toyed with the idea of ordering another one and kit bashing some parts to make a Military truck replica.
Nicely Detailed Kit
This kit is very fun to build and provides you with a great looking display on the shelf. The kit is typical Revell quality with no flashing and well designed parts. Only a couple of parts to this truck are a bit finicky to build. The light that go on the roll bar do not have very deep pins so you need to make sure they do not get crooked when the glue is drying and I would recommend not installing the antenna. It's very hard to glue to the roll bar and is easily snapped off. The other part that's a bit tricky is the plow. Some small parts are involved but if you take your time, everything fits the way it should. I would recommend glueing the bare styrene first and then painting to aid in assembly. You can always hand detail as needed with bottle paints.
77 gmc plow
I love this truck it is a great addition to my truck dioramas and garages I love building trucks and this one definitely has a lot of different ways you could build it and that’s the beauty of this truck you can chose to lift it lower it keep it stock height or what ever else you can imagine I definitely am going to put another one in our stash and you can not complain about the price on this truck Pros: easy on the wallet, Very detailed, nicely casted, lots of possibilities, great for dioramas CONS: minimal flash if you are thinking of picking up this kit then do it it is a lot of fun to build this kit and you will have a lot of fun with it and it will look good for dioramas or whatever you want to make it for
wah wah wah
lets see....one of the sprues had 1977 molded into it.lots of flash, some of the parts dont fit and need to be worked to fit right. and dont get me going on seam marks and push pin marks....wait...isnt dealing with all that called modeling???????????.....?????? if there wasnt flash and all the rest wouldnt the hobby be called assembling???..!!!!! i am so sick of reading reviews that complain about all the aspects of this hobby that make it fun. the only thing i can find fault with is there is no chain included with the kit to lift the plow with. i just picked up a cheap necklace and used a bit of it to go from the plow frame to the lift arm. if you like MODELING you will love this truck!
Gmc plow kit
I love this kit and anyone who loves K10 will love this kit to it is beautifully done and looks really good when complete and is a lot of fun when building I had absolutely no issues with this kit it looks good weither you go with the plow look or go beyond box stock this kit is full of ideas there about 110 pieces but you don't have to use them all obviously this kit unlike the GMC wrecker kit does have a engine with the tire and Jerry can it gives you in the kit in my opinion it looks best in the bed instead of on the tailgate but go with what you want but other then that have fun cause it is definatley worth the money
Quick and easy Build!!!
I had my eye on this model for the longest time, and when my income tax came I ended up getting one for my collection. As I was building, I found the model very easy to understand and put to together as well. However, like any model out there on the market it did have some minor fitting issues, but nothing major that would affect the look of the model. Also, there so many different ways you can customize this truck as well. So, if you are looking for a model you can customize and make it your own, I would highly recommend this model to you with no hesitations.
Really Easy Build.
I built this truck because it looked like one I use to drive forty years ago. The kit was simple to build and everything went together as it was supposed to. There are not a lot of parts, so it is an easy build. It could have used a little more detail, but the finished product looks really good. The tail lights are not molded in red, so make sure you have some transparent red paint. I would definitely recommend it. It was fun to build and is a good platform for customizing.
A fun kit
I love this kit it is a lot of fun to build and very easy to assemble i have been looking for a plow truck kit for at least a year and this is the one it reminds me of my neighbors plow truck and this truck can give you really creative ideas the plow spring may be a little tricky for people just starting out plus even when glued be careful around it cause with me it came out three times but revell did a amazing job on this kit highly recommend it
Truly a Fun Kit
This kit was a joy to put together. I don't know if it is just because its a truck or because it is a more unique build than I'm used to. The plow was a ton of fun to put together and all the off road accessories really beefs up it's style. There interior could be more complex, but having owned this truck I can account for how simple the cab is. Highly recommended!
Made in China
I have not worked on scale models in about 15 years. When I last did, the vast majority were made in the US. Now I see that most are made in China. This model did not fit as well as I had expected and that, I believe, is due to the manufacturing in China. You will need to modify some areas for the body and bed to fit properly. But, it did turn out pretty good.
Nice Model Kit From Revell-Monogram
This 1977 GMC 4X4 model brought back memories of working for a lawn mowing service when I was a teenager. I liked that it had the plow attachment. Model went together well except that I had a bit of trouble with the hood sitting properly - I think the dashboard impedes it. Other than that, everything fit good and the finished model looks great.
I love this kit
This kit is great. Pure 1977 4x4 goodness. The kit went together well with minimal flash. The only thing I am not a fan of is the tires. They are the generic Revell offroad tires. I was able to get some Fujimi made Bridgestone tires that fit perfectly and brought the truck to life. This kit is so good I got another for later!
A surprisingly versatile kit
I had a lot of fun building this kit. As you can see from the photos of people that have bought this kit , it is a very versatile kit . It can be customized ,weathered, aged or built as if new. I highly recommend this kit . The fit was actually quite good and a decent amount of detail
Good not great
This is a good kit pretty easy to put together.i had a few small problems with mine front and rear bumpers came a little warped also the rear window was a little over sized so I had to cut it to fit.this kit is fun and pretty easy to put together and looks really nice when finished.
bagged gmc
cut the lift suspension, used arms from another kit to drop the front, gutted engine bay, cutout bed, cnotched backhalf, icemmman collection intros to finish off the street truck look, truck currently awaits full custom frame for bodydrop, new motor, full sheet metal style frame
GMC pickup w/ plow
Hobbylinc does a great job trying to keep models available during the pandemic. When I saw this one was available, I jumped on the opportunity, and was surprised at the fast shipping. Now I have a project for this month. I’ll post pics when it’s done. Thanks Hobbylinc!
Nice plow truck kit
Nice kit, plenty of detail and extras, no fit problems or flash, only thing I found that wasn’t great was the plow, it needed some extra details not provided in the kit and not covered in the instructions, some online research provided the info though.
A good build
Good kit. Its got some great options. You can build it stock or as a work truck in many variations. Not a lot of flashing. Decent detail. Parts went together well. Interior needs a little help but it looks good when its all painted up
Quick, fun build
Was a nice kit, went together well, just not a lot of detail to it, nothing special. Decided not to use the plow, and saved it for another pickup. Lots of better pickups out there, will probably buy another to do a kit bash with.
love it!!
The parts on this model are very detailed and was moderately easy to complete. I enjoyed building this model truck. I wish that there were more old school chevy and GMC trucks to build other than the tow truck.
Awesome kit, very fun
I have built 4 of these kits and they are my favorite on the market, the interior lacks detail along with the engine bay but still very fun and easy to modify, I have lifted 2 of my gmcs and it was very easy.
Squares!
Excited to build this kit and the step side Chevy version. I will be building replicas out of each kit and will be swapping the grills between the two, to make this a Chevy and the step side a GMC instead.
Great
was a fun build i turned it into a bag show truck with cowl hood from lex's scale modeling gave it a 2 link with panhhard bar rear suspension and a notched from first build after 24 yrs off lol
Great Product.
I recently finished this model, and I have to say this is a very easy one to build. I use to own this model of the truck and its unbelievable how spot on the details are compared to the real truck.
Fun Build!
I enjoyed building this truck from beginning to end. The details were decent as we're the instructions. It was probably one of my favorite models i've built and definitely my favorite truck build.
gmc plow
Those revell kit is awsome, parts fits very well and still in this kit many parts extra? not in the instruction and optional parts etc...enjoyed paitng this kit and all together really fun to do.
love this chevy body
i grew up with my dad having these kind of trucks for his business and loved them, i was so excited when i saw this, i bought it and put it together and it turned out great.
fun kit
good kit everything went together smooth. just wish the truck had the 350sb v8 instead of the v6 but it was a fun build lots of ways you could go with it
Great kit!!!
Great Model and fun to build. Aside from the bed being a little twisted out of the box it went together really well.
Fun to Build
I had a lot of fun building this truck. I took my time and it turned out great. Lots of detail for a great price.
It's not a CB!
The part that is labeled as a CB, is not a CB. It is plow controls. I thought it was kinda funny. Great kit though.
nice pick up and great plow parts
