Definitely worth building
This kit checked all the boxes for me: interesting topic; challenging; but well engineered and executed. Parts were molded well with almost no plastic flash at all to be trimmed and they all fit without any modifications. There are literally a TON of decals to be applied as most of the dials, controls, etc. are decals that are applied to the bulkheads and side wall of the hull. You will Definitely need to use MicroSol, or equivalent to get them to seat and conform to the plastic molding shapes on those parts. I used MicroSol and then a hairdryer to heat the decals enough to form to the parts - BE CAREFUL, this kit's plastic is pretty soft and the hair dryer can warp parts if you are not careful. Also, I HIGHLY recommend using CA glues for attaching the completed bulkhead sections to each other and for gluing the two hull halves together. I started at the stern, got that glued using thick CA; once dried, I glued the bow section together the same way and then worked my way back, gluing 2 or 3 inch sections together at a time until completed. For the guardrails I used very small pins glued into the deck, cut them to length, then rigged them with thread - a Whole lot easier than their method of melting plastic runners to 1/2mm thickness and gluing in place.
challenging, rewarding, a bargain.

as with all my revell builds, i found this kit a blast to work through. although a basic, simple construction, care should be exercized throughout the steps to keep all completed sections aligned properly. using the complete hull half (not the windowed one) as a jig to hold each newly built section to the last while the cement sets assures the completed interior fits well inside the joined hull halves. i found joining the halves together to be the most challenging part of the build., so be aware of that. all in all, the kit was fun and informative as to what your basic submarine looks like inside. how authentic it actually is isn't really important to me, just that the model works for me visually, and this one definitely does. i thought weathering was necessary to jazz up the outside, but left the interior pristene, as a contrast to make it pop. i love this kit and look forward to building revell's other u-boat with interior model, which is already in my stash. i highly recomend it to modelers with some experience. building this one, i felt like i grew as a modeller, and that's as good as it gets! p.s.: be ready for some serious decal time, because this interior has hours of tiny decals to apply in challenging places. very rewarding, though.
Attention! Amazing model alert!
I cannot explain to you all how much fun I had building this model. From each room, to the airbrushing, to assembly, it was fun at every moment. The pieces all fit well, and nothing required trimming. This piece looks AMAZING as a book shelf topper, a centrepiece, or just sat on the shelf on your desk. With all the mixing of yellow, green, and grey internally this model is sure to catch the eye of any beholder, and break the ice of any person who may enter your house. Every decal fit relatively well and was NOT prone to tearing or ripping. I’m a relatively new model builder (only made maybe 5 or 6, with only 1 fully completed) and I had virtually a stress-less experience building this model. If you’re looking at the screen right now thinking “should I buy this model? I don’t know...” all I suggest to you is 100% yes. You won’t regret it.
A lot of fun!
I like 1/144 scale for the large size and amount of detail. This kit has detailed interior that seems to match the interior photos of the prototype found on the web. It's not a very difficult build and looks great in my collection of 1/144 scale warships.
U-boat
This model is a little over whelming at first, but the if you just go from the first step and read every step before moving on, it should go together like any other model. Good luck, its a good model.
Type XXI
An excellent kit of a most interesting subject. Detailed in and out. Instructions are well laid out and easy to understand. A highly recommended kit for sure!
Great
Can't wait to build, this will be my first time doing a sub.
Interesting Submarine to build
A few of the parts were broke and some parts are hard to fit.
