Nice illustrated summary of BB-62
If you're a modeler you're familiar with the name of David Doyle, who has authored many books on military vehicles for many publishers. This book covers the battleship USS New Jersey (BB-62) from her origins and service in WWII, through Korea and Vietnam, her 1980's modernization, and finally to the ship's current post as a museum.
This is more a pictorial history than a dedicated modeling reference. It's not an in-depth dissertation on the ship or its historical actions. It primarily features pictures of the ship in dry dock and sailing, and plenty of photos of the sailors aboard at work. There are also special event photos such as at the commissioning of the ship or of celebrity visits. Each photo has an informative caption. It is still of use to modelers, particularly if you're looking for photos of the WWII years. I was particularly pleased to see lots of photos of the aircraft catapults and the Kingfishers. There is coverage of the Korea/Vietnam and post-modernization years, but I would recommend another Doyle book, Iowa-Class Battleships from the Squadron Signal On Deck series as a more valuable reference for that era, as it provides more detailed close-ups of the whole ship.
This is a good summary of the New Jersey's life and an easy going, enjoyable read with a great variety of photos.
