Fun kit!
This is one of the better kits I've built. There's two reasons for this not being a 5 star - first, the color callouts in the instructions for the engine leaves a bit to be desired - look online for better details; two, the body was a bit .... odd .... to get on - confusing is a good word, and the interior was tough to fit in the body and keep straight. So far, all my builds have been showroom stock, or car show hot rod clean. I decided to go a bit whimsical on this - bright green with flowers! The build did go together pretty well, except for the aforementioned difficulty with the body. Mold lines were there, but light and easy enough to remove. Flashing was light at most, but most parts did need some level of cleanup beyond the sprue mount points. (Not a complaint, just a note.) Although I once had a 73 SuperBeetle and I've had several friends with bugs, I've never been overfond of them - because of this, I likely won't be doing another one; this is because of personal taste, and no slap at the kit.
VW Beetle
This was my first Tamiya kit I have built and will say that I'm very impressed with the quality. Instructions and paint guide were easy to follow. There's is a lot of very small parts but hey, it is a very small car. I'm afraid the tie bar is way to weak and will break if you try to turn the front wheels to often. The only other issue I had is mating the body to the chassis, after several test attempts I still was not able to seat hood hinges together for an opening hood. Now if only Tamiya would start producing American muscle cars as I'm not really interested in there present offerings, but I'm sure I'm in the minority there. Again though, fantastic quality from Tamiya.
1966 VW Beetle
This is another great kit from Tamiya. The parts are small, but fit together well. Instructions are clear for the most part. The alignment of the exhaust was unclear, but manageable. A word of caution: use caution when removing the clear plastic parts, they are brittle and can crack. I damaged the side windows removing them. Fortunately for me, I had intended to remove the front section of the window to be able to view the interior better, so it wasn't an issue. Overall I had very few issues, but this kit is intended for intermediate and above modelers.
Very detailed and intricate assembly
This was my first Tamiya plastic model I ever built. The details were very inclusive and challenging to paint and assemble, but when combined, culminated in a product that is truly a joy to show off to friends. Some of the parts on the trees were cast too thin to handle at times. But chrome details, actual pose-able steering details, and foil decals, set this apart in my mind from other brand models I've made in the past.
Fun to build for great results for a classic car!
Of all the Beetle models built by other companies that I have built over the years, this kit satisfies for accuracy and quality. But, at my age - 70 yrs old, the small parts are a real challenge. Its a classic vehicle and Tamiya has made a superb kit for skilled modelers to build a vintage model. I built my 1st one stock and may order another to customize like Bugs I have seen over the years.
Good model.
I have been modeling for over 40 years and this is the first one I have done by this manufacturer. The detail is outstanding. There are many small parts to deal with which takes a lot of patience. At times, the instruction sheet is confusing and I had some trouble matching the body to the frame assembly. Overall, a great model and I would definately recommend this to anyone.
Terrific kit!
This was my first Tamiya kit and I’m sold! There was almost no flash on any parts, the casting is crisp and very detailed. The fit of each part was perfect and didn’t require any massaging to make things fit properly. I was impressed with the detail of the engine and interior. Highly recommend this kit for building either a stock bug or to modify to your hearts content.
What a great kit
I haven't built a kit that has gone together as easy as this one. Flash is rare on this kit. I did a little rust and weathering on mine and it has won a couple of awards at some shows I've been to. The steering works and is a nice touch. Tamiya did great with this kit and it is one of their cheaper ones so if you haven't tried a Tamiya kit this is a great place to start.
Great Price, Great Kit!
The kit builds into a fine example of the iconic Beetle. Parts fit was excellent as was the detailing of the parts. Virtually no flash or mold lines in the plastic pieces and the plastic is very high quality. Instructions are more than adequate and easy to follow. The suggested paint colors to finish the model are spot-on. I highly recommend this for kit for Beetle fans!

Amazing detail

This is my 2nd Tamiya Kit and like the first one, the attention to detail is very impressive. This build was quite challenging for me. Very small parts, some more delicate than others. Patience and persistence was required by me to complete this beautiful 66 Beetle. I highly recommend this kit.
It's Tamiya all the way
Moldings are crisp with no flash. The way it is packed in the box gives everything room and avoids potential damage. Very nicely done. Details on the moldings are excellent and as with all Tamiyas I've built, Ill bet it goes together like a dream. Quality all around. Excited to get to it.
Vw Bug
This VW Bug is worth the money. Best kit yet I have built. Its easy an great detail in the engine. Looks great An easy assembly. If you do alot of cutting on bodies to make a custom body. This would be a great build to cut up an make an awesome low rider Bug. Overall great model.
My favorite car
love this model, my first car back in high school Easy to assembly, numbers are in succession, so there is no confusion. pros, easy to assembly cons, none I'm going to others more and paint them different colors, I love this style of cars
First of Its Kind
This is the first Tamiya kit I have assembled. The tolerance between the tight fitting pieces, as well as the design of how they fit together is outstanding. If you haven't tried a Tamiya kit yet---you should!
No bug in here!
Tamiya is still one of the finest models manufacturer. It may be the car of the people, but it is well detailed, with a lot of potencial to mod. A nice little bugger!
