Reviews : Tamiya 1989 Sauber-Mercedes C9

This is one of Tamiya's classic group C car kits in LeMans trim. The kit is very complete with some PE parts, window painting masks, and wire for antennas in addition to the usual decals and clear and colored molded parts. The decals depict Sauber's LeMans entries in 1989. I could not find detail pictures of the C9 in LeMans trim, so I can't comment on the accuracy of the kit. Don't know if it is closer to the WSC version or not. I added many details to my build, which may not be apparent until one compares the kit to pictures of an actual C9. Regardless, if one is interested in group C cars or LeMans cars, this is a must have. There is some excess flash on some of the parts as the molds are getting old, but it's not too bad. This is why I rated it 4 stars instead of 5. I would recommend this kit.

This is a very well engineered kit that fits together beautifully. Take your time and follow the instructions and you will achieve a great result. It's also a good model for super detailing - you can add spark plug wires (which I did) and more plumbing and electrical cables. The model comes with painting masks, an excellent sheet of Cartograph decals, special tire decals, and photo-etched metal parts.

Love this car and it’s rich history. It’s molded nicely with no flash. It isn’t packed with parts for the price but good enough for a built model.
