Reviews : Tamiya US Army Infantry Crew Soldiers Set

I have been modeling and making dioramas for a while now, but this is the first time I used a military kit. For beginners like me to figurines, I found it very easy to work with, even though it is a Japan-based company and most writing is in Japanese. The picture guide that came with it is good, even though you can mix and match with most of the props. The facial features were bland and could use work. I do need to warn you, there are thin, fragile pieces like barrels of the guns and small knives that can easily break with you do not use caution. The grenades that are included are small, so make sure they are all in a safe place. Over all, the kit I received was up to my standards I expected and I hoped for. Nothing was broken for me and the figures were in good condition. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a quality, cheap kit, either skilled craftsman, or a starting modeler.

This is one of the roughest figure kits I have worked with. I find the figure poses are a little to posed not very human looking. A lot of flash to remove at least on the kit I have. Facial expressions are also not human looking enough. I would recommend getting one of the weapons kits and replacing the Thompson and the Garands both of which in my kit had broken barrels. It will give you plenty of work to clean them up. In any event, this kit is worth the price and at under four bucks you can't go wrong. Get a couple to build and a couple to use as supply points for modding other figures mixing and matching heads arms and bodies along with the accessories that come with it.

Upon opening the box I think this is an older kit. The details don't seem as crisp as others I have built. Still I enjoyed building it and my grandson will love them. Biggest problem was the directions were in Japanese which was no big deal as far as putting them together but painting would have been hit and miss on the colors. Had to use a paint guide from another kit for a color guide. Liked the poses. Most other kits I have come across seems to be stuck on certain poses. Oh one thing wrong, the kit didn't come with a hose for the flamethrower had to use a piece from my German 88.

This is my first set I have ever worked on.I love these figures. I bought five boxes and interchange the arms and weapons to create different figures all together. Now I have 20 different poses. The original poses can stand well even without the bases. However, in some cases were I interchanged weapons,rucksacks or arms, in order to make them stand better without the base, I used little bits of pieces that are very tiny, under their boots. Those pieces came from the set itself, when you remove the figure or the equipment from the square base that are all attached.

These figures are made with somewhat dated 70's technology and it shows, but can be made to work for you for ww2 or Korean War or even US Allies post war period with some work. If you are going for a really detailed project get another more detailed product like Dragon etc... , but if you are looking for low price, and simplicity of building and can deal with just OK quality, these are fine for you.I think the low price is the selling point for me.

Tamyia needs to take this kit of of the market and re-tool it. 1972 doesn’t cut it now. I just finished the “ 88 mm Flak 36/37 “ kit from 1974 and it was far better. There was a BIG difference between the American GI’s compared to their German counterparts as far as Equipment and size. The GI’s were a lot smaller. They are supposed to be 1/35 scale….not so. Very disappointed in this kit.

The Good; very good detail, except maybe with the grenades, They have done better, Sturdy material. The bad; lots of flash on this particular kit. Quite tedious sanding and still missed some. As with the older kits, there was a big gap between the torso and lower body, on the two piece figures. Still these figures way outclass some of the other makers figures, that cost more than five bucks.

These were probably on the leading edge of infantry figs several decades ago, but they suffer from the Pillsbury-Doughboy chunkiness of most Tamiya offerings of that time. Poses look forced, not dynamic, and gear is simplified. It probably has its place for beginning dioramists but they are too weird to mix in well with more recent troops.

this is a nice little kit for large scenes the figures are to over posed so in a little scene there to posed. my kit came to me in good condition nothing was broken and the kit comes with a lot of stuff such as extra guns like a bar and a grand with a grenade plus a carbine. all in all it was a really easy kit to build.

I realize the kit is low priced. However, the figures are not in scale with other Tamiya 1/35 military figure kits. For example, If you are combining these with other 1/35 military Tamiya figure kits, like I had intended to, they do not match, thinner/poor quality. Stay away.

I really liked this model. It is a nice size and a good price. It fits together great, but I would like it better if it came with the gun straps and the flamethrower tube. I really like that it came with extra weapons.

For less than $5 it's not bad. But some of the soldiers poses look unrealistic and the soldier throwing Gernades and the flame throwing solders will not stand. A good set if you want weapons gear and bodies to mod

Iam rating this kit as not bad, I find this kit needs a lot of work and if your patience the men can be made to look good, not great but good and for less than five dollars it is a good deal

This set is very old and it shows. Some of the poses are unrealistic and need work. I would recommend this only to a person that wants to try out different techniques with building figures.

These guys go with any US WW2 kit. Can be painted to match any theater of combat to include USMC in the Pacific. I have several of this kit in order to include with all my US vehicle kits!

I am working on my second of many dioramas and would suggest this set to anyone. Easily assembled and great for beginners.

These set are pretty basic but for the price it’s worth the time of entertainment. I like to customize my models
