Reviews : Tamiya German PZKPFW IV AUSF D Tank

I was excited to get this one! I'm trying to build up my German collection in 1:35 and for over a year this one was on the list! It was used widely for the German's through world war 2. Changes were made along the way to try and keep pace with the ever changing enemies. The build went pretty good, a bit of an older kit, and there was a little bit of flash to remove, but the thing too crazy. Careful with the track link, they are a little small, it's like it missing a couple link or something. The connecting piece also have tiny, thin nails to fit through and attempt to melt town to fasten the track together. That where the first pro lem thought came to mind haha if the tracks were even 3 tracks longer it would not be so tight when placing over the wheels. I used staples to reinforce each track, hopefully that hold for good, it usually does. Lots of external details. Give late and Afrika version and early versions, short barrel and 3 crew members which look OK I guess, I've seen worse, haha. I didn't get it for the crew anyways, haha It will look nicely on the table scene or maybe even something small by itself. This would be a pretty good Introduction to 1:35 scale for beginners or something quick to build and fun to try new paint jobs or add-ons etc. Def recommend

This Tamiya kit is a good quality one that has been around for a long time now, having assembled mine back around 1997. The tread system is of the long rubber strip type, so an update on the kit could use optional molded sectional or individual link variety for those modelers desiring greater detail. The kit can be built towards one of the 2 varieties of the ausf. D, the Africa Corp. type with the turret rear bustle, or the European version without it. The kit can also be used to build an ausf. E unit, whereupon the turret rear bustle became standardized on all production models, regardless of their theater of operation. It comes conveniently molded in a dark German Grey color which can save some time and effort towards painting of the European editions, and does have the standard lot of hull exterior accessories, although extra stowage items are rather spartan. The kit comes with 3 crewmen in the correct period uniforms, which makes the price very nice. Overall, the kit is of good quality and nicely detailed, and I would recommend it to others.

I know people who read my reviews are probably tired of my complaints. Sorry that's the nature of this beast. This is the first Tamiya kit I have had with a few problems with putting the darn thing together. Maybe it was me but I had a problem with the instructions and the fit, something that doesn't usually happen with a Tamiya kit. Ok it wasn't a total wash. Most of the kit went together with no problem. No flash to clean up and seams on the figures weren't bad. I downloaded pix of what I had problems with along with model pix. Don't get me wrong, I would still recommend this kit. Others would probably not have the reaction I had to the minor stuff. Must be cabin fever. Buy this model. Whatever problem I had with it is not enough to put anyone else off of buying it.

This was a mainstay of the German Army once and it can be for any modeler. The model is inexpensive. So build a detailed one and have a squadron of these. There are not many parts. This one time battery mobile track can be detailed by someone with a bit of ability and who watches all those videos. I opened the engine compartment hatches, leaving one opened. This should be a quick build but life got in my way. My build suffered as a result but do not let my model dishearten anyone. It will be nice to bave another of these. They backed up stronger rifled tanks, keeping infantry off them. That is one way to portray this, or as I do, coming off a train car. I like this Tamiya model very much. It was clean, little flash. The figures, I left out. So buy a couple of these from HobbyLinc

The Tamiya PZKPFW IV AUSF D turned out to be an impressive piece, once finished. It has very good detail, including the breach end of the tank cannon inside the turret. Hatches on the tank hull can be in the open or closed position, as well as two crew hatches on the turret, and the commanders cupola as well. An Afrika Corp version (with optional rear turret tool box and slotted engine cowlings) as well as European version are available. As usual with Tamiya kits, figures, tools and accesories (cable, bucket, fire extinquisher, jack, shovels, etc.) come stock. My kit needed a bit more flash and seam cleanup of some of the parts than I have come to expect from Tamiya kits. Overall, I would still recommend this kit as very nice, even with the extra work involved.

This kit is just wonderful on so many levels. First, it is affordable. Second, the quality is way above what you are paying. Three, this could be a first kit for a kid, a first kit for someone getting into armor or military or a first kit for someone who wants to get into modeling. It is so forgiving and the instructions are easy to follow and well laid out. They also feature something that I just love - a parts list that names the parts like fire extinguisher, jack, etc. The packaging is really good. The decal sheet, while limited, is nice. The fit of parts is outstanding. You have to get this kit. The only downside is that the figures all have identical faces. Worth every nickel!

This was one of the first kits I built and I really enjoyed putting it together. The instructions are pretty straight forward and the parts fit together well. For a kit this old it actually has some pretty good detail and tons of accessories. It comes with 3 figures which are kind of bland but they do make the model stand out more. The turret gun is nicely detailed on the inside of the turret and you can chose to have the hatches open to reveal it. Overall I found to be a very fun kit to put together and would definitely recommend to all skill sets. There are other versions of this kit from tamiya that come with aluminum gun barrels and photo etch.

This was my first tank that i have built in a long time. Tamiya quality is still excellent. This kit is based on the early version but can also be assembled into its late or African versions only. The instructions where excellant. I liked the detail and fit of the parts. No filler and sanding of joints. Extra accessory parts and figures allow you to go in so many different directions with this kit. The only con's i have is the locating and information about the decals and tank divisions. The drawings did not give detailed information on where to place all the decals. I look forward to building the other two versions.

You can't go wrong with Tamiya kits and this Panzer IV Ausf D is no exception. An older kit, but still a quality build. Good detail, little to no flashing and good bang for the buck. Great for beginner and intermediate modelers. The turret back joint seam needed a tiny amount of putty and sanding. Other than that, this kit went together smoothly. An enjoyable and relaxing build. I'm currently completing the late Balkan front version. Ordered another one to add the Africa front version to the collection.

Like all Tamiya tanks I've built this was another great kit! Every piece fit together wonderfully, and detail was pretty good. With this kit you can choose between early or late war design, and decals to match. The instructions were clear and precise in showing the different options for building. As with all Tamiya kits the decals worked very well and looked nice. Depending on the tank I don't always like the rubber band style of tracks, but on a light tank like this they look fine. Great kit!

It is fairly well known that Academy Models are sometimes buy-outs of Tamiya kits as I have experienced the quality in Academy kits as this one is no different. All of the parts and overall fit are exceptionally well designed similar to this Tamiya product. The detailing possibilities are found in every aspect of the parts and using extra parts from any German tank is highly recommended. I had no issues with the Academy kit as a replica Tamiya, also known for exceptional fit of parts.

This was the third armor kit I ever built and was responsible for an obsession with all things Panzer IV for about a decade. I've built five of these over the years and consider it a go-to kit when I want to build some thing. I actually have a half-built one on my workbench right now. The kit is a great beginner kit and a veteran builder can really have fun. The Ausf. D has a wide range of uses...seeing combat in Poland, France, the Balkans, North Africa, and Russia.

I've not finished yet but everything is looking good. You can it use be motorized model. That won't be a problem for anyone. Spures are very clean no flash. Instructions are clear and readable. The tracks are the rubber. Wished they were workable links. May order some. I'll post some pics from start to finish. Two versions in three different fronts.

Overall, a fairly nice build. Very good looking model when finished. My only complaint would be the large number of parts that had to be attached to flat surfaces with no pin and hole attachment. Very much liked that the kit came with optional parts that allowed for constructing the tank to fit a wide variety of campaigns, from Poland to North Africa.

tamiya's 1:35 scale pzkw IVd is an affordable, challenging model of a large, heavily-armed turreted armored fighting vehicle. replete with onboard equipment and optional parts for multiple variants, detailed crew figures create an instant diorama. its historic role as infantry support also makes it a perfect pair for many of the figure sets

This is one of the first models I built since getting back into model building from when I was a child. Tamiya is my favorite company for tanks. The instructions are clear and the pieces are high quality. It is a very detailed model with not to many pieces. Overall I enjoyed it very much.

This tank is awesome for thoughts just starting and is also very detailed with extra parts, I will say though the tracks they come with are super crappy so I suggest getting some on their own (if possible) but in total an awesome tank that can go good in any diorama

A challenge at my age especially with my large fingers. The parts fit well and no flashing. Some of the parts were too small for me to do a proper fit and some parts are not mentioned on the instruction sheet. If you are up for a challenge buy this kit.

it took some extra work to make the parts to fit, and the instructions could have been a little more clear. its what i would call a rainy day model to build. the one you build will deciding on your next big project.

i found the PZKPFW IV AUSF D 1/35 scale kit a very exhilarating model to do. The detail and the over all build was awesome this kit is one i have and will continue to recommend to my friends and other to build.

Excellent kit to put together, but it needed a filler in the front and I need more practice at that. But I would recommend this kit to anyone that wants to have fun. And the price was right. Thanks Tim.

if you love a challenge is a good fit for you I liked the detail of the model as always take your time. for me that's a problem sometimes but the kit was good build all in all

Another classic Tamiya kit. Initial examination reveals that the parts will fit together with no issues and will result in a nice-looking kit when completed. An excellnt price.

I like this model very much, goes together well with no hangups. I did mine Afirka Korp style came out great. This kit is a must have for any modeler. Good kit, great price.

The kit was very easy to build and offered a couple different options. The panzer 4 offers so many weathering possibilities! Tamiya kits are always a joy to build.

I really like this kit. Just the right amount of detail and size for the price. These tanks were the vanguard of Germany's WWII Blitzkrieg.

Older Tamiya kit, still holds it's own against newer kits. Fun and straightforward build. good selection of accessories as well.

This tank was the first one with winter color. It was easy to built at a relatively low cost. Excellent for a beginner like me :)
