Reviews : Tamiya West German Lfakpanzer Gepard Tank

This kit goes way back in the Tamiya line. This is a nice older Tamiya kit. It assembles easily with no major problems. The detail is not as sharp as the newer kits, but it includes more features than a lot of the older Tamiya kits. For instance: the rear of the turret opens to show the radar equipment and the molded on features seem sharper and more distinct, making it easier to detail paint. The tracks are the rubber band type that most glue won't stick to. You can follow the instructions and melt the posts to join the tracks. I also put a couple of staples across the join. To install the track, leave the drive sprockets off until you are ready to install the track. Place the track over all of the wheels, fit the drive sprocket into the track and press the sprocket into place on it's axle. That way you don't have to stretch the track to get it around all of the wheels and drive sprocket.

Great priced model that I had skipped over for many months but wanted something different, yes its another German armor piece but this time mid 1960s. Still the reviews and images don't do it justice, and YES it is an older kit with the markings where you can put in a motor and batteries (remember those????). Anyway surprising well fitting parts and appealing kit but I just CANNOT picture it in a diorama somehow at least not at my skill level. Still a great kit though!!

I built this kit about 25 years ago. It had great detail on the weapon barrels and the radar box on the rear of the turret even opens up for battle damage or a 'maintenance' diorama. Very cool looking, almost 'sci fi' addition to your collection when you're done. Radar antenna dish on back is an unusual feature which could be motorized for some animation if you wanted. I really enjoyed it.

this was an ok model. its older, never built one before. as usual I don't go by the recommended paint schemes. no problems that I can think of.other than it being such a dark green, some holes are hard to see. easy to put together, instructions basic. I built this one and the marder while on an adam 12 binge..lol. basically it was fun and different from what I usually build.

When the instructions call for heating sprues to make antennas, I think older kit. Anyway, the turret and both radars turn and elevate, as well as the guns. The back of the turret opens up to reveal a semi-detailed interior. Tracks are rubber, fit is good, but not perfect. Have fun!

This kit was a joy to build. A lot of detail with opening hatches, movable turret, radars, and guns. I recommend this kit without reservation.

This is an easy kit to put together, I build it years ago and do not remember any fit problems.
