Reviews : Tamiya US M60A3 105mm Gun Tank

After several years I decided to start modelling again. So I bought this product to get back into the swing of things, so to speak. I found the instructions very informative giving a couple variations of the M60 to build. I decided to build it with no figure and the hatches closed. It was a relatively simple build with the exception of the tracks. I did have some initial difficulty putting on and aligning the tracks. In the process of installing the track I broke of one of the spindle wheels trying to stretch out the track. I finally did get it on and the drive, spindle, and support wheels lined up. Other than my minor mishap with the track, I would say this is a simple build. Although there is not much detail such as ammo cans and rucksacks, etc... If you are looking for a good quality M60 to build, I would recommend this one.

I haven't built armor since I was a kid... and after the very simple T-34 from Revell, I figured this would be a step up in detail and complexity before I take on a Dragon kit with PE. Well, I was correct! This is a great kit with clear instructions and very nice detail. Assembly fit well and the turret rotates. Only thing I could see wrong was the static open/closed configuration of the hatches. With a pin vise and little patience, a skilled modeler can make both hatches functional. A friend of mine was a tanker and this was his command. Thanks, Mark, for the inspiration!

Tamiya's M60A3 is an older kit, but it was still a fun build plenty of detail and good value. I scratch built some minor details to try and match the box art and I used some items from a Tamiya accessory kit for stowage, gun simulator, spare wheels and the driver figure. The instructions are typical Tamiya and are easy to follow. The tracks are the one piece rubber band style, but they turned out pretty well. Overall, a very fun kit that won't stress you out with hundreds of tiny parts and will leave you with really cool tank!

This kit is a nice build of an M60A3. It is an older kit in the Tamiya line, but has held up pretty well. As with all Tamiya rubberband type tracks, I put a couple of staples across the track join to hold the ends together. Another hint is not to glue the drive sprockets in place before the track is added. If you thread the track around the wheels and fit the sprocket in place last with the track around it, it saves stretching the track and possibly breaking it or the mounts off of the other wheels.
