Reviews : Tamiya German Tank Engine Soldier Crew

Got this awhile ago and have been waiting for inspiration to hit me. Didn't want to build a crane as one reviewer suggested. Decided to install the engine and was trying to figure out how to cut out the engine cover without messing my model up. Then came across a panzer model where you had to put the cover on. Eureka I had my chance. This is what I ended up with. Used a few figures from other kits to give support to the mechanics. You only get one engine, not two as the box top implies. It shows two because you can build the engine for a tiger 1/sturmtiger or a panther/king tiger. Am looking for more kits like this as I am getting tired of just battle poses.

I have to say I was pleased with this detail kit. The motor fit perfectly into the tiger 1, I was building. The small parts, tools, barrel, and battery compliment the two mechanics very well. One thing to remember when using this kit, is to add the figures last. The turret has to be turned either left or right. I did a dry run placing the figures using blue painters tape. This didn't leave any glue residue or damage any of the paint. I also do this that way the figures can be weathered differently and be unique when finally being placed on the rear of the tank. This is a must have for any diorama that is displaying any type of tank maintenance.

I bought these figures as an accessory for a WW2 truck that I was building. I am pleased with the figures and the level of their detail. The tank engine included in the kit seems a little too simplified. The other items are detailed enough (including a ladder, ,an oil drum, some tools and an (empty toolbox?) The two mechanics are in natural poses and can add a nice touch to a diorama or display.

I used this kit on a tiger I that was newer than the list on this kit it fit perfectly. note; inorder to have a place to stand and work the turret needs rotated to the rt or lft rear of the tank if you place the figs to soon, like I did the flanges which hold the turret on must be removed to place the turret. this kit is very nice to improve a kit w/out breaking th bank

I like this one mostly because of the tools you are getting in the box then engine itself. The thing is that engine comes in 2 version, panther and tiger options, but its only top part visible. Its great if you making open hatch and repairmen working on it, but if you want to make cut out view of the tank, get something else. Other than that, its good model.

I really like this kit and applaud Tamiya for releasing a set of such a rarely seen subject. Just remember however, your “engine installation) scene should include a crane of some kind to lift the heavy engines!
