Reviews : Tamiya Kawanishi N1K1-Ja

This is a model of 'buts.' Every time you notice something good or bad about it, it seems to be evened out by something else. For example, the molding s pretty good, and the panel lines and details are very crisp, but there were lots of little mold holes that needed to be filled and the fit for the fuselage halves was just a little bit off. The interior detail was very good, and with a little research and additions, it could be really awesome, but the kit doesn't come with the option for an open canopy (and the canopy plastic is too thick to cut it open, unless you're really brave). The landing gear struts are very sturdy (I was able to put weight on them even before gluing them in), but there was a portion of the landing gear cover that wouldn't fit without hitting a gun barrel (there's also no option for the landing gear to be up, but you could probably do it anyway with a little initiative and a sharp hobby knife). The decals are of very good quality, but there aren't very many of them. There are a lot of options for different planes to build in the decals, but again, the variety cuts down on the detail. Overall, it's a good model. It's easy to build, it has good detail, and it looks great when finished, but it doesn't really meet my very high expectations for a Tamiya model. However, it is inexpensive and I still consider it a good deal and a fun model to build anyway.

This plane has few parts but there is much detail in a plane of this scale. The cockpit has a lot of detail for a plane that shows the glass in the close. The parts go well together and instr. sheet is good the paint sheet shows four different planes. A good model for all.

Great product could not elsewhere. Great selection of models and related items.
