Reviews : Tamiya Plastic Cement 20 ml

I think this is the second-best cement out there, after Tamiya’s Extra Thin Cement, and it never fails to perform well. What makes Tamiya Plastic Cement so good is the bottle and cap - the hexagonal bottle is very hard to knock over, and the applicator brush built into the cap makes for a tidy worksurface and less chance of getting cement where you don’t want it. Because it doesn’t dry immediately (about a minute working time) Tamiya’s Plastic Cement is ideal for larger areas and tasks that may need a bit of fettling before the join becomes permanent. The only downside is that over time and exposure to air, there will be some evaporation and the cement will become thicker. BUT if you add some Tamiya Extra Thin Cement you can get the Plastic Cement back to a viscosity you like. As the Plastic Cement runs low the cap brush no longer reaches the base of the jar, so adding some Extra Thin also brings the volume of the cement back up above brush level. Plastic cement works by melting the surfaces of the plastic being joined, thus ‘welding’ them together for a permanent bond. Note that Tamiya Plastic Cement only works on plastic and won't work on resin or metal parts.

Brush integrated into cap is nice and handy, but also too short. It only reaches about 2/3 of the way into the jar, and only about half-way into jar without screwing the cap partially closed. So after jar is half-empty, it's a 2-hand operation to tip the jar or partially screw scap closed to dip brush into cement. Not convenient when multiple dips are necessary for parts. Cement fluid itself is very good for plastic-to-plastic bonding. Sets quickly for small or medium size parts. Dries a little too quickly for my taste when gluing large parts, such as aircraft fuselage halves or ship hull pieces.

This cement works great on plastic models. The brush on the cap gives you enough cement to join parts together, without leaving a glob on the parts. I have used it on several aircraft models and it held them together with ease. The pros are ease of use and control over cementing the parts together, another pro is it is in a clear jar to see how much is left after each use, which makes it easy to know when to buy another jar.I can't think of any cons, as it a quality product. I would've bought it earlier than I did, if I had known the ease of use. I recommend it for all modelers.

This is so much better than what I used as a kid. The brush under the lid is about 2.5 to 3mm wide. It is fairly precise. It picks up a lot of glue so I press it against the inside of the jar until I have what I think I need. In use it paints on quite nicely. It's thin but doesn't run. It's thick enough to stay where I put it but it is not blobby. The smell is like a strong fingernail polish. I put the brush back on the jar immediately. It takes a few seconds to set up so I either act frozen while I hold it or use a third hand tweezer to help. I really like this stuff.

Never thought I would like to use more that one plastic cement but I tried this on a whim. Sure glad I did... it is the best for gluing large assemblies as it does not evaporate rapidly and hangs in one place quite well. Like gluing large wing assemblies it is the best as it is thick enough to hang in one place and is slow to evaporate. There seems to be some butyl acetate dissolved in it that gives it the thickness. Using the thick and thin Tamiya cements for the many assemblies required to build a complex model goes a lot easier with these cements. I recommend it highly!

Tamiya Plastic Cement is an excellent product that will convince plastic model builders to leave their old tubes of plastic model glue behind. This plastic cement has different chemical properties than the Tamiya Extra Thin Cement. The orange capped product has a much longer set time, permitting the builder more time to precisely position plastic parts when necessary. The brush applicator attached inside the orange cap is an excellent bonus. As far as plastic cements go, this is the best product I have used so far.

I prefer this cement for applying to large surface areas (e.g., flat wing mating areas in airplanes). Extra thin is excellent, but dries far too quickly to line up seams with pieces of large area. To avoid spillage of this cement from the joint near the seam, I leave the edge near the seam uncemented and run extra thin along the edge once I've lined up the flat areas. So this cement is still worth having. I also think it dries faster than the Revell thick cement; that's what I recall anyway.

This the best glue I had used if you do get some on your fingers, it doesn't make a mess and make them stick to other things till you wash it off. It has better and faster holding power than standard testors glue.Easy to apply with included brush or something smaller like a toothpick.Only drawback not good for brushing large areas as it tends to evaporate, so you can't let it sit exposed for any length of time. All around best glue I use and definetly a go to for most applications

I use this and the Tamils Extra Thin cement for all my models. This was the perfect addition, it sets quickly and the part can be handled within a few minutes (15ish). I used to use tube cement but got tired of the mess, this comes with a brush in the cap. I also use a toothpick to dab small quantities when necessary. 1 small issue, it stinks. A lot stronger smell then the Extra Thin, which I don’t mind but the wife took notice. Great cement, buy it, you won’t be disappointed.

I'd been away from the hobby for awhile so when I decided to build a model I read some build articles around the net. One of the most common things mentioned was brush on glue as opposed to using the old tube. I figured I'd give it a try and I see why so many people like it. You have total control as opposed to not knowing how much of a blob is going to come out of the tube, and, for small areas, it's really easy to just dip a toothpick in it. Nice price too.

I like all Tamiya products. I think Tamiya ,and some others, are top shelf Hobby essentials... the glue works very well. You have to be quick with it though it can easily craze if the piece your working on slips or you touch the glue with the tips of your finger(s)and then touch the plastic. It can happen. Overall the glue is excellent, the modeler needs to improve. Fortunately modeling is not a stagnant hobby, its only as limited as your imagination.

This is the best Cement by far to put together Model tank tracks, you can easily put a full set of tracks together in a few hours, you can paint it with in a hour of drying to the touch,then I paint the tracks, the cement stays flexible and strong enough to attach the tracks together, this cement will set up in a few days, by then I am displaying my finished model. now if the seller can just keep it in stock, I would buy a few bottles to have on hand.

For many years I have used Testors glue on my models. I would try to get a little bit of the glue onto a toothpick, and then the tube would keep leaking more and more glue. That and all the strings going from the tube to the toothpick to the model would ruin models. This product has a very handy brush inside the cap. It works so much better, and no more strings. I will be using this glue from now on.

This liquid cement is slightly thinner than the ones from the Testors tube but allows more control with the brush applicator attached to the cap. I like the wide short bottle because it provides a stable base and is not easy to tip over. The Tamiya liquid cement really cuts down on your build time since it is not necessary to clear the tip applicator or waiting for the glue to squeeze out.

The adhesion of this glue is really good for the parts on my model. Due to a mixture of user error and the way my model has to be assembled, however, I found out that this paint eats the clear coat and base coat color if put on the paint, which made me have to redo a few areas. One wish would be for it to not eat the paint, but for the proper adhesion, I am still pleased with the cement.

I use this and the extra thin glue. Both are excellent. I use this one to glue larger surfaces where the glue needs to dry a bit slower. My only problem with it is that the brush does not go to the bottom of the jar. So when you start to get low on glue you need to order a new bottle so that you don't have to screw the lid/brush in to get a good amount of glue on the brush.

So far, using this one bottle, I've done 3 1/48 aircraft and a rocket, and there is still 1/3 left! This melts the plastic at the joint to create a strong bond. The brush is a little un-precise though, but some practice or an applicator like the touch-n-flow system will make it better. Use this in a ventilated room though, the smell becomes unbearable after a few hours.

As it is becoming increasingly difficult to find and buy the classic orange tube Testors and the fact it just isn't as good as it was in the past, I decided to follow everyone's advice and try Tamiya's liquid cement. It lives up to everything everyone says about it. Once I use up the last of my Testors and CA glue, it will most likely be my main adhesive.

Tamiya cement a little goes a long way. Was shocked when I got a tiny tiny bottle and thought ‘what… lol… so tiny. But when I brushed some on my model piece and only needed a little bit impressed me. Nice tight bond. I like how it comes in a bottle with a brush, no tube squeezing air bubble popping rush of excessive glue waste. Just dip and spread.

This is probably the best general purpose plastic cement ever for modeling. It's not gooey like the Testors' stuff, but not overly runny. It doesn't slide where I don't want it to go, and dries in a few minutes. That's plenty of time to make adjustments. Once dried it's also easy to sand down, making detailing even easier. Just perfection.

This is the thicker tamiya cement. This is the stuff I use more for large area coverage such as wings. This differs from the tamiya extra thin, in that it will stay where you apply it. It does tend to squish out of seams, so use it sparingly. Using this, tamiya extra thin, and a good CA glue let’s me build any styrene model.

I have been a Testor's glue and paintguy since I was a kid. No more! This liquid cement is orders of magnitude better than Testor's liquid cement. It bonds quickly, (about 20 seconds), doesn't distort the plastic, and doesn't run. I just brush or daub a tiny amount on both parts, press and hold.

Another fine Tamiya product. I would not recommend using the rather large applicator brush that comes with it - one must take care to not overflow the seams to be glued together when using it - but in spite of that, it forms a good, strong bond. Sands rather easily when allowed to set up overnight. I recommend it.

For many years I always used walmart laquer thinner instead of regular glue. After the manufacturers took out the Butyl acetate from the laquer thinner it will not work. This stuff is the perfect replacement although the laquer thinner would last about two years and gave me one quart for about $6.50

Recently got back into building model kits after a break of nearly 30 years... have only used the orange tubes prior to this. Decided to give this a try as felt would give me more control being liquid. Couldn't be happier... tighter bond, easier to apply, and a little bit goes a long way.

I started off with tube glue, which was okay, but once you get a brush it opens up a whole new level of control. You can add drops by over saturating or you can get very small amounts by rubbing the brush along the rim to get just a little bit of glue on the brush Very good, will buy again

I use primarily Tamiya cements. to me they are the highest of quality and easy to use. I use extra thin for quick set and when I need capillary action to do the work. I use this bottle for parts that need more time to manipulate. also great for dabbing small parts in before attaching.

I've slowly been using this more and more. And i've found it to be a great product for the price. My advice though it so work quick and apply as little as you think you can get away with. Also as the bond isn't instant a set of small clamps, some rubber bands, etc. is HIGHLY recommended.

This is a great adhesive and a huge leap forward from the legacy toothpaste tube plastic cement we all grew up with. It is far easier to work with and has much less chance of over-application. I have both the quick setting and normal setting versions and I can highly recommend both.

With all the choices for cement in the world of modeling, this is one of the top three that I consistently use. My rule is to always order 2 of them so that I don't run out and lose valuable modelling time. Adhesion is good and the drying time is optimum for my uses--auto, aircraft.

This glue is perfect for whatever your hobby needs are. The application brush works wonders in tight hard to reach spots and allows you complete control over the amount of glue you apply. This stuff lasts forever.. Had a bottle for almost 5 months still a quarter full

I started to use this one after I had tried the Testor's liquid cement. I find this one dries a little faster and wish it came in a larger size. I would recommend using perhaps a smaller brush instead of the one that comes with the bottle for doing close/tight work.

It's a thick glue that holds pretty solid. You just need to make sure that you have a little pressure for a couple of seconds before going on to something else. The brush is bigger than I thought. Little time to get use to using it but no complaints

I think this is useful cement. It dries quickly and runs less. Downside is that it is stink and the applicator brush it has is very wide making it less than idea for smaller pieces. It would be good to compliment this with extra thin cement.

Very good product ive been using this for about a week and it works amazing. I can be very precise on application of the glue on small parts for my models and it holds. I think the biggest pro is the brush making precise application easy.

So much easier to use than tube cement. This has a permanent place on my work table. Good set time, enough to position parts, but not so slow you have to babysit the parts all day. If you haven't tried it, get a bottle.

I was first recommended this glue when I came back in the hobby about 4 years ago and I haven’t looked back. Very little needs to be used to develop a strong bond making this product a great bang for your buck

This cement is thicker then the Tamiya thin version and it works when you need a stronger bond between parts. Doesn't set as fast as the thin cement giving you time to fit parts together.

Just. Got. Back into modeling and had not used. This cement back in the old days. This. Stuff holds parts together great would recommend this. Product also love that it comes with a brush

This is more like regular old fashioned cement, but not as stringy as the testers cement. Brush application. Useful for doing large pieces like hulls of ships or top & bottoms of wings.

I have always used testors in tube hearing this is hard to use. They were all wrong. I tried and love it. Spreads out nice-but not to thick. As an amateur with this i was impressed

This Plastic cement is a very nice product for a very nice price. It works great, I was worried at first since the price was on the lower side but I was not disappointed with it.

Hot glue. I use it in areas the seam will show. Great for pre-apply to parts before joining. Softens up most styrene quickly, allowing it to weld seams together for less filling.

I recently picked up building models after 50 years. I only knew of tubed cements. now that I have begun using bottled cement, my models are coming out neater and quicker

I AGREE WITH ANOTHER BUILDER. YOU HAVE MUCH MORE CONTROL WITH THE BRUSH, AND IT GIVES YOU A BETTER REACH FOR SOME SPOTS. I AM VERY GLAD THAT I TRIED THIS GLUE.

In this day and age. There is no reason to be using antique tube glue. Liquid cement is so much easier to use. Drys faster, bolds better. And NO SPIDER WEBS.

Definitely thicker than the extra thin. I'm rarely in need of this cement and only need it if extra drying time is preferred. Works well if that's the case!

I got this as an alternative to cement in a tube. Having a brush makes it a necessity. Not much more to say than its convince the and works how it should.

Strong hold, and sets fairly quickly, but not too fast. You have a little time to make any adjustments you may need to make. Love this little bottle!!

The adhesive brush is too thick and makes it hard to apply the adhesive in a fine bead. See Tamiya other fine line brush product for model cement

I enjoy using this cement, it is viscous and bonds very fast. It has a very useful applicator and that makes it even easier to apply.

Excellent cement mixed at the appropriate concentration. It doesn't corrode plastic as much, especially to the smaller pieces

Love this cement, it just takes awhile to dry compared to the thin, but it still great. Strongest bonding cement I’ve used.

This bottle of cement has a thick brush so I only really use it to cement the wings together on the planes I have built.

Really nice product hold the parts together very well. Brushes out nice so you can get the glue where you want it!

This is much easier to apply to models and a whole lot less messy than the tube goo that seems to get all over.
