Reviews : Tamiya Fine Surface Primer L Light Gray 180 ml

I use this primer on 1/48 airplane models. The coverage is excellent. Rather than continuous spraying, spritzing on and off is more than suffient to lay down a fine coat. Little to no visible texture, so it's great for priming under lacquer or acrylic gloss/semi-gloss airbrushing. A light coat dries quickly enough to apply a second thin coat within half an hour. A couple of thin coats, an overnight wait, and ready even for a lacquer base coat. Although a little goes a long way, it's a bit pricey. I'd love to see it sold in jars for airbrushing to control waste and enhance application. Overall, highly recommended.

I use this primer on small scale resin, metal, and plastic models. Used as directed, it won't obscure fine details like many primers. It tolerates being sprayed in a wider temperature and humidity range than other products I've tried, and the nozzle is not prone to clogging. The light gray color makes it very easy to see any flaws or rough spots on the model before painting. It can be painted when dry to the touch, but if left at least 12 hours will cure to a very tough, durable surface.

As with most grey primers, this primer lasted longer than the white version. Grey is simply more opaque and will cover better with less primer. This primer is very fine, and produces incredibly smooth and slightly shiny surfaces. This is excellent for highly detailed areas or for revealing irregularities on the surface. Keep in mind that it's lacquer based (TOXIC STUFF) and should not be used indoors unless you have a very good ventilation system.

The Tamiya fine surface primer is perhaps the best plastic model primer available. It has great adhesion properties and very fine pigments. This makes it excellent for getting into tight spaces without paint build-up. I usually put an initial coat on, using the primer to help identify seams or irregularities that need to be puttied and sanded, then repeating the process until surfaces are smooth and continuous under a final coat of primer.

Overall, this is the best primer that I have used. I have both the white and light gray. They both are just as good, I have more of a personal preference to the gray though. It helps show any imperfections in the model, and gives a nice even coat as long as you don't hold the can in one spot for too long. I have only had a problem once with paint not sticking to the primer. I would highly recommend this primer.

This primer covers great leaving all the fine detail and panel lines sharp and smooth . Very fine pigment . I usually put the can in warm water just before use on colder days .This increases the pressure in the can and hellps to achieve a better more uniforms spray . You both need to use this product in a well ventilated aria or spray Boothe .

This is the first spray can primer I have used (currently building my second ever model so I'm slowly building my skills/supplies) and it went on very easily. I decided that the fine surface gray would be a good all around primer to have on hand for my current build and future builds. The coverage was even and application was foolproof.

This is my go-to primer for just about anything miniature related. Much more convenient that getting out the airbrush to prime just a couple figures, and the coverage is always excellent with no loss of detail. Forget the more expensive, game company brand: this is the best there is!

No matter the scale, Tamiya Fine Surface Primer is an excellent choice when it comes to priming your model. The smaller the scale though, the more beneficial Tamiya Fine Surface Primer is. Maintain all the detail you hope to maintain before painting with Tamiya Fine Surface Primer.

Easy to use and work with. Sticks well and isn't too thick like off the shelf universal spray primers. You can't go wrong with Tamiya paints. It costs more than a big can of universal primer but you don't have to worry about compatibility or damaging the plastic.

Sprays evenly and thinly right out of the can and levels out with no detail loss. Acts as a putty in tiny crevice and helps reveal unseen blemishes. Takes acrylic paint with no problem. Has a very heavy odor and toxic fumes so vent and respirate accordingly.

An absolute must before airbrushing. Goes on light and does not hide any detail underneath. The only con is that the can does not last for long and it's on the more expensive side. Still, worth every penny. Best price is found right here at Hobbylinc.

IN MY OPINION THIS IS THE BEST PRIMER ADHESION IS EXELLENT VERY SMOOTH WHEN I WANT A HIGH GLOSS FINISH THIS IS WHAT I USE FOR A CAR MODEL WHEN IM DOING A MILITARY MODEL OR ANY THING THAT DOES NOT REQUIRE A GLOSS FINISH ILL USE THE REGULAR PRIMER.

First time using a primer. Just got into building models and never used primer but just painted. Used it on my current build, it sprays even across all surfaces without hiding any details. Will be buying in the future for all future projects.

I've never tried using primers and just painted models. Wow this paint primer covers much more evenly and for car models I just paint the car frames and call it a day. Very smooth and it doesn't hide model details. Will buy again.

I prime almost everything with either this or the White. Smoothest surface I have ever seen with primer. Helps paint adhesion so color coats don't lift when removing low tack masking tape. Can be sanded if necessary. Dries very fast.

Provides a smooth surface that helps one see the imperfections that need attention. I am extremely satisfied with the results. I would definitely recommend this product to my fellow hobbyists.

A little more expensive than other rattle can primers but it goes on very thin every time. Place in a bowl of warm water before using for smoother application. Will definitely buy again.

wash and rinse your parts before giving them a coat of primer. highlighted details will be easier to discern and brushed lacquers will coat smoothly, saving time and money

This primer is barnun the best primer for any model kit available. Goes on extremely easy with great coverage extremely durable and allows all the detail to show through.

I spray it on most everything. Shows up where more work is required and serves as a firm base for paint. I sometines use white or black, but the gray is my workhorse.

This is an excellent primer that dries very flat and won't obscure very fine details of a sculpture. I use it frequently when priming my sculptures for painting.

Tamiya Fine primer can be applied and finish painted without any sanding if a person wished to and it would be more than flat and smooth enough.

Since I use Tamiya spray lacquer on all my builds, this primer is my favorite. Its good all around for most colors.

Hands down probably the best modeling primer you can buy it Sands easily and gives you a nice smooth finish.
