Reviews : Trumpeter USS Colorado BB-45 Battleship 1944

Built this one a few years back, along with the 'Texas', 'California' and 'West Virginia'. This version is the 1944 refit version. It went together very well but it does have a lot of smaller parts, much like the other battleship kits. Nothing that a good pair of tweezers can't remedy though. The birdcage mast assembly for the forward conning tower is frustrating though, as the mast itself is photo etched and trying to curve it into the circular shape (and get it to stay that way) is difficult. Plus trying to glue the tower itself to the mast was also frustrating. Eventually got it to work though. Not disappointed at all with the outcome! Glad to have it.

I liked how this kit went together, I am glad the Trumpeter has taken on the task of releasing ship classes such as the Colorado class battleships and the New Orleans class cruisers that have not been produced in plastic before, Now if only they will produce the New Mexico Class Battleships - USS Idaho, USS Mississippi and USS New Mexico.

This is a very good kit but it has many small parts and they fit well tweaser are a must. One of the hard parts is the cage mast. It is a phot-etich part and must be fited with care. The inst are good and the paint guide is good too. The ship can come as a full hull or waterline. This is a ship that will take time.

Although I have not built this one, I found when I built the USS Maryland as at Pearl Harbor, I bought pre-formed cage masts through FreetimeHobbies.com. Perfect, and they also have the correct shape and you don't have to paint them if don't want to.
