Reviews : Vallejo Gloss Varnish (60ml Bottle)

First, I love Vallejo's paints, and I have a background in the coatings industry. However, this product is absolutely far below their usual standard. I have tried every dilution ratio from none to 4:1, with and without flow improver, at airbrush pressures from 15 to 25 psi. The only consistent result has been a lack of consistent results. With all combinations above, I never get the same result twice. I have taken great pains to make sure the coating is well mixed in its bottle, and the reduced (thinned) mixture is thoroughly mixed before it goes into the airbrush cup. One pass looks just fine, next one is either orange peal or coarser blebs on the surface. What's worse is that Vallejo's Product Guide says … the final result is not a ‘polished glass shine’ but is more than satisfactory for a water-based varnish.” Essentially, it's a satin finish, not gloss. Considering that there are many other gloss coatings out there, this one is far less than satisfactory. Another odd thing: The Vallejo Satin and Matte varnishes work beautifully. The gloss needs a lot more work.
